Would we go winless if we played in the ACC?
« on: December 22, 2008, 12:32:48 PM »
I guess this will be answered when we play Miami in a few days.  If we lose that game, we'd fall to 0-4 (the Duke game is just not possible, so I'm adding it now) against the ACC.  Miami just got ROCKED by 20 by Clemson.

Obviously UNC, Clemson, Wake, NC State, and FSU would all destroy us. I think Maryland and Ga Tech would handle us easily as well.  The only chance I see would be Virginia, but that would be an absolute battle and we'd have to be clicking on all cylinders.

There are no South Floridas in the ACC.

No we'd still have 9 wins  ;D

Who knows and who cares because we're not in the ACC. However to answer your hypothetical I don't think we'd fair well but not winless.

With Burrell back, GT's lack of depth, and Hewitt on the sidelines, we might have a 25-33% shot against GT. We're a better offense team, but they're playing much better defense than last year. NC State is also vulnerable.

I just don't see where the wins would come from.  We would likely be the underdog every game irrespective of venue.  At least the Big East, for as strong as it is this year, has a handful of teams that we will be favored against at home.

I think the closest line would be +2 at home vs. UVA.

Interesting question.  Though I think this team would be built differently; and I don't know that the team would have gone 7-9 in conference in 06-07 (meaning there probably wouldn't have been the same coaching staff with NO winning seasons).  Then again, Virginia (the Rutgers of the ACC) and Virginia Tech had a banner year that season, so maybe they would have.

Don't discount how NC State, Maryland, and Georgia Tech (what do they have, 7 players?), always have their fans asking "how did we lose to THAT team?"
