During Holiday festival

During the Va Tech game Bucky Waters said that its hard for St Johns to recruit because theres no dorms. What was he talking about? Correct me if im wrong but doesn't the main queens campus have 4-5 dorms and about 3,000 students living on campus?

I believe he said because there IS dorms. St. John's was allowed to use a stipend to pay athletes for their living expenses since they couldn't provide housing. Generally speaking these checks were more than the cost of their rent/food so they were earning cash and it was completely legal.
