I respect your opinion, Choz, but shouldn't kids who are good enough to play at a major conference D-1 school already know how to play under control and how to make a basic bounce pass, etc. Of course there is a lot to be learned at this level but a coach should be teaching the complexities of breaking the trap, attacking the zone, etc. Not how to catch the ball and how to finish a layup.
Unfortunately, too many kids playing HS and AAU ball are allowed to do whatever they want because they have the physical skills to dominate at that level but aren't being taught how to play the game the right way. That's why, in most cases, freshmen sit and seniors start.
These guys have to be able to hit the open jumper. We heard that they focused on that this past summer. The 2 on 1 fast break that looked like an 8 y.o. CYO team I blame the coach for. They should be able to execute that with their eyes closed.
