Who said St. John's is irrelevant?
« on: January 06, 2009, 12:26:14 AM »
So I was rolling through my blog roll just a few minutes ago and noticed we got a shout out on Storming the Floor. Hey Oh! If you're not familiar with storming the floor(STF) they run a really cool blog covering college hoops around the country and are pretty big time in the blogosphere world.  This is from them.....

The way the Big East is shaping up, every week is going to feel like Ali-Frazier all up in this season. Marco's decision to join the Georgetown Nation notwithstanding, this is one hell of a team. They can hardly be faulted for dumping the nation's #3 program, UConn, and then not quite having the gas to do the same to #2 Pitt, right? The Domers have had an easier go of things, not having played a top-notch opponent since Ohio State on 12/6. Still, they managed to drop one to cellar-dwelling St. John's a couple of days ago, so high-five to the Johnny Jungle. The one thing the Irish have going for them is that this game is at home. That, and the reigning Big East player of the Year, that is. Should be buh-rutal.

Also to answer my own question that would be Andy Katz who said we were irrelevant.

virtually everyone says we're irrelevant.  that's because it's true.

playing spoiler to one or two teams doesn't equal relevance.

being a team with a chance to make noise in the conference does.

Being good or bad has nothing to do with relevance...being awknowledged does mean you're relevant. Also the title was meant to be slightly sarcastic and I just wanted to share some info posted by our friends at storming the floor.

BTW, we are not cellar-dwellers.  We would be on the third or fourth floor of a hi-rise apartment building.  Only one team gets to dwell in the cellar--and last year it wasn't us. :)

Aiming low ;)

For some reason, I feel optimistic about the future of the program. Perhaps, it's the fact that, for one game, these sophomores and freshmen were able to hang with one of the best teams in the country-and we should only get better next year, while some of our BE breathren will get worse, through player attrition.
