Calm Before the Storm - St. John's vs Georgia [Johnny Jungle]

The Red Storm welcome the Georgia Bulldogs as part of the SEC/ Big East challenge doubleheader.  Unfortunately, St. John's is the undercard; Connecticut and Kentucky clash in a matchup of big programs and big coaching egos (and long-running beef between Calipari and Calhoun).  In comparison, Norm Roberts and Georgia's Mark Fox seem awfully meek by comparison.

St. John's is coming off of a fairly competitive game against the Duke Blue Devils down in Durham, NC. Even with a loss, there were some good elements that came from the game that remind people that maybe, just maybe, some kind of surprising turnaround might be in the offing for the Red Storm.

Still, Georgia is finding their way early in the season. This is the kind of team that can be trouble - if you're the opponent the day the game starts clicking for them, and they gain confidence and pull off a big road win. St. John's does not want to be that victim. They are who you think they are. Don't let the 'Dawgs off the hook. And St. John's needs to give the fans a reason to come out of hibernation in this, their first game in Madison Square Garden.

Great job again, looks like if we stop the big Thompkins we should get the W. Big game for Coker

I think it's more important not to let the rest of them do anything.  Thompkins has had some bad games, and the other guys have picked up the slack.  But they're just not very talented.

Great write up. We have to show that we can play well for an entire game.
We just show up in spurts, and then disappear.

Against Stony Brook it's okay. Against Duke, it's not.

Need to finish more consistantly on the break, and play defense without fouling. Our frontcourt is light with 3 players, and only one experienced player. Need to keep our bigs out of foul trouble.

Bulldogs to play in New York's famed Madison Square Garden


Nestled in the heart of Manhattan, N.Y., Madison Square Garden is widely considered the most famous basketball arena in the world for its propensity to host the sport's greatest games since its construction in 1968.

Wednesday night, the Georgia men's basketball team will scroll front and center across the infamous Madison Square Garden marquee, as head coach Mark Fox's new-look Bulldogs take center stage against St. John's in basketball's greatest venue for the 3rd annual SEC/Big East Invitational.

"I have been in Madison Square Garden, but I have never coached in the arena," Fox said. "I'm really looking forward to that for our players. It is, as you know, the most famous basketball arena in the world, and it should be a great event and should be a day that our players look forward to."

Bulldogs take game to NYC

Madison Square Garden promotes itself as the world's most famous basketball arena for a reason.

It's the longtime home of the New York Knicks and the final four of both the postseason and preseason National Invitational Tournaments.

New York basketball crowds are savvy and demand quality. If they don't get it, the fans don't keep their disapproval to themselves.

Georgia (4-3) takes maybe its toughest nonconference road trip of the season when it plays St. John's (6-1) in the SEC-Big East Invitational today at 7 p.m. in the Garden.

"I was born in New York and spent some years up there," Georgia forward Trey Thompkins said. "I had a couple of chances to go see it, but I've never played in Madison Square Garden. But hopefully I'll be able to perform in an acceptable manner. There's expectations, there's hype, there's anything you can think of in Madison Square Garden."

Yeah, we're not making that cover.  Unless they get serious about playing a real rotation (like at Duke).

yea I told a few of my buddies if the spread was 5 then I'd bet the Johnnies anything over is more of a gamble.

I agree with CBTS it should be interesting to see how we rebound the basketball this game. That may be the biggest key to this game.
