I like this team but I have doubts.  I odn't think we're top 25 material.  Top 25 teams have to dispatch B-S opponents, not let them hang around with line changes and indifferent defense on  freshmen.  If I'd seen any of St. John's wins over low-level teams (Brown, Bonnies, Stony Brook), I wouldn't vote the Storm top 25 either.
I have to disagree about us not being top 25 material.  Top 5 teams (like Kansas for example) have to dispatch weaker opponents all the time.  And I don't think anyone thinks we are in Kansas' league.  But to be in the top 25 you have to win the games on your schedule, bottom line.  Then hopefully some of those wins are against good competition...(Siena, Temple).

That being said...I am not surprised we weren't voted in this week.  We definitely deserve some recognition, which we are.  Regardless of the scores...if we win the holiday tourney and then beat Bryant...I think we will be ranked going into BE play!!!

I'm not claiming expertise here at all Dave but I think margin of victory has a major impact on getting votes. Voters aren't watching every game. I'd venture to guess that it's probably a stretch to say that they even look the box scores over more than once or twice.

Having said that,  it would make sense that they put more stock in a 25 point win as opposed to a 10-12 point win. It's not necessarily fair considering everything that goes on in a college bball game but practical in the sense that it saves them from watching 1,000 games.

While these games haven't been as close as they appear on paper, the voters might not get that impression.

On the other hand....it could be a good thing that the voters aren't watching all our games.  Maybe they just take a look at our record....realize we are missing Mase and Burrell....recognize we beat Temple and St Bonn on the road and Siena on a neutral court....gave Duke a pretty good run in Cameron.....and they decide to give us some votes.

I agree that if we beat Fordham, LIU and Stony Brook more decisively it would make our case better!!!

I think it factors in as well but I wonder how much. Seton Hall has a much larger margin of victory than us but they also got less votes. Their schedule is much weaker too. Its all very interesting. I'm pretty happy with being #35 right now.

Rankings are great, but lets win more than we lose in the big east.  Win 2 games in the BE tourney, and go to the big dance.  this means nothing right now.
Team is off to a good start,  lets get better, and finish this off the way they should.  Anything less will be a disappointment imo.

We need to play a full game before top 25 is something we've earned.
