STARTING 5
« on: December 22, 2009, 09:27:23 AM »
Now that we are going into the meat of the schedule, with JB and Mase on their way back....what should our starting 5 be?

IMO....

PG: Hardy (No defense, but SJU has a rep for going several minutes with 1 FG in games. We need his offense)
SG: Mason (This is his year...period!)
SF: Kennedy (Team MVP by far this year.)
PF: Burrell (Rebounds, rebounds, rebounds!!)
C: Coker (He has earned the right to start with his defense and non stop hustle. Losing that weight made a heck of a difference!)
6th Man: Horne
(Versatile player who can play SG, SF (if needed), and bring up the ball (if needed).

I have no problem with this starting 5.  I'm just confused about why everyone is looking at Mason Jr. as a saviour. "This is his year"?  Really?  Well he better get going then.  This poor kid has been hurt for 2 years and it has almost been that long since he's been on the court with his teamates.  Do you really think he's in any sort of game shape?
I hope i'm wrong,  i hope his comeback is miraculous and he comes in and averages 18ppg.  But history and reality say its not gonna happen.  At least for a while.  this is DJ Kennedy's year.  that is Fact!

I agree with Mike, but I might put Mase and Coker on the bench and start Boothe and Evans, both of whom I have hated on.  I think it would be good to have a real PG in there, and you cant have Boothe and Coker in.  I WOULD start Hardy.  Too much offense.  I think Horne, Mase, and Bronwlee are perfect to infuse the team with energy and offense.  I think Coker brings a defensive lift.  You'll see early which Sean is playing and sub him out for brownlee or mason asap rather than bring him in and find out he's bull in the china shop and all of a sudden we were down 6 and are now down 12.  Boothe doesnt bring much off the bench so I start him despite not being a big fan. I'd still only play him 15-20 mins.

Have you watched Hardy play the point?  He's a little tentative, trying to be careful, and his dribble is decent, not great.  Boothe needs to start and help set the tone.  The staff has to move him around a little more when he doesn't have the ball, just to get the defenses paying attention to one more possible slashing guard (even if he's short, he can make some plays going to the basket).  Anyway, he's the best dribbler and one of the things that has made this team competent is the turnover reduction.

Boo, Mase can score and he's long enough to get his shot off over most defenders. That means something.
