Red Storm Ruins Stephenson’s Homecoming [NY Times]

The P.A. announcer at Madison Square Garden introduced the final starter for the Cincinnati Bearcats: “At guard, a 6-5 freshman from Brooklyn, New York, No. 33, Lance Stephenson.” And the boos flowed out of the stands.

Here was Stephenson, one of Coney Island’s finest and the state’s top career high school scorer, returning to play in his hometown and at the Garden for the first time in his college career — and getting singled out for a rude reception. And there would be more boos and derisive chants from the pro-St. John’s crowd.
