Johnnies struggling, but not embarrassing [NY Post]

When St. John's is introduced today when they take on West Virginia in the Garden (Noon, ESPNU, WBBR 1130 AM), there likely will be more than a few boos aimed at coach Norm Roberts.

If you're a St. John's fans fed up with the results -- four straight losses, a 12-9 record after a 10-2 start, and a 2-7 mark in Big East play -- it's your right to boo.

Hopefully, no one in the crowd will lower itself to the level of some West Virginia fans, who have taken to throwing coins and garbage on the court. They should be banned for life, or worse, be placed in a basement room with West Virginia coach Bob Huggins.

But to the segment of St. John's fans who have emailed with comments such as -- "St. John's is a joke!" or, "This team is an embarrassment!" -- it's reality check time.

Exactly, and do big time recruits really care abt a family atmosphere?  They care abt a quality coach with a track record of success, who gives them a chance to play basketball for money after college. 

Better yet, do fans really care about stuff like that?  No they want to Win.  I like that the program is clean, but that's about the only thing that is positive abt the team and ill be honest it's down on the totem pole to winning.

What scares me about this article especially after a 12 point loss to Rutgers is if a writer, who is supposed to be objective, can write an embarrassing article like this.  I wonder if it's a GT the administration will fire this guy no matter what happens for the rest of the season. ONe can only hope.

This is one of the most disgraceful articles I have read in awhile.  If all St. John's is after is "doing it the right way" and "creating a family atmosphere", then hire a player's mom.  She'd be able to help with the family atmosphere aspect and she'd be doing it at about a tenth of the cost.

What the hell are these reporters talking about anymore?  This is a college basketball program with a coach making close to $700,000 a year.  In 5 previous years, he has shown complete incompetency in both the recruiting and coaching aspect of his job.  The nice persons in charge decided that since all of his players were upperclassmen this year, they'd let him have the opportunity to see what he could do.  And big surprise, he has fallen flat on his face because (a) his point guards are awful (b) there is no legitimate scorer on this team (c) he still does not have a clue about how to coach a basketball team.

What more does the man have to do to prove he's not capable of putting a winner on the floor?  Think about it ... he's got the exact team back next year with no big time point guard coming in.  The Big East, in the middle of a transition year, will probably be back at full strength in 2010-11.  So it goes w/o saying they'll be awful again.  Then, on top of all that, he loses his entire program for the 2011-12 season, meaning there will be at least 2 years of trying to give his young players experience.  So what the hell is the upside?

I don't even know what to say after today's game. They're good enough to hang with and even get big leads on these teams and then...nothing. Sometimes, even worse than nothing.

Anybody else notice back point guard Masola or whatever his name is defending Burrell in the post some in the second half AND the team never recognized that fact or got him the ball inside. I saw ONE inside pass to.....ONE......and he scored it. This is the worst passing team in the country. Also guys driving and drawing Burrell's man.......BUT then trying to score over to two guys and hard challenged shot with Justin left and wide open. That's just selfish and idiotic. Horne is  big on that.did it twice in first  couple minutes of the game.......AND missed both shots.

this article is so embarassing, even the post wouldn't put it in the print version of the paper.  it's so embarassing, you can't even respond anymore..it's locked.

robbins takes the administration spin and runs with it...you know, the part about the 14 out of 14 graduating.  anyone who follows the program except ring kissers like robbins knows there have been a dozen transfers under norm's reign of error.  does robbins think none of those kids wanted to graduate from st john's when they got here?

is that what you call "family" atmosphere?  would any of you kick your son out of the house because he can't play defense to your liking?  norm is running the program like a business...not a family.  so the business is failing badly...so let's spin it to make the losers who still give robbins an ounce of cred to think he's running the brady bunch.

i'm more sickened by this robbins puff piece than i am of our predictible second half meltdown against west virginia.  robbins...i've been in the news business for ages now...i've never seen worse sucking up than this in all that time.   

look up embarassing in the dictionary and you'll see robbins' byline.

Lenn Robbins is a joke.  He looks more like a basketball than a basketball player.
