It's more Zagoria floating a thought balloon out there rather than either stating anything groundbreaking.

But let's talk about this.  What on earth would be different about hiring a coach who was a good/ great player, but has no experience in recruiting, teaching youngsters how to play the game, developing game plans, maintaining discipline, crafting training strategies, and dealing with the press/ alums/ administration? 

There's a lot more to the game than knowing how to use one's own physical abilities; you can see that some players become bad coaches, and some become good coaches - no correlation.  Or in baseball, where great hitters aren't necessarily great coaches.  They're still great hitters.  But hitting and teaching hitting are very different.

And a lot of people putting rumors out there. 

But the fact that there's so much buzz about a coaching job that isn't open yet could (and I stress COULD) mean that there is interest in the job.  So we won't have to go through what Providence fans went through.

Then again, none of the more feasible coaches has said anything about St. John's.  Just wandering eye Pitino and news reporters.

I completely agree. It's a lot to ask of a guy with no experience. Could he do worse? Probably not. But we need a guy that doesn't come with risk. Mullin, as much as I love him, is a huge risk.

And if by chance, he bombs like Roberts, are you going to fire arguably the greatest player we've ever had? Would he return for the 30th Anniversary celebration at MSG? Wouldn't be much without him. Then again, who really cares?

The Yanks got away with it, to an extent with Yogi, but we're not the Yanks. We're not even the Knicks. Kill the little history we have, and what's left to admire?
