His fate still uncertain, coach Norm Roberts has piloted St. John's to its first national postseason tournament since 2003.

The Red Storm (17-15) was selected into the 32-team draw for the NIT Sunday night. Seeded sixth in one branch of the bracket, the Johnnies will travel to play Memphis (23-9) in a first-round game Wednesday night at 9.

"It's one step of us moving forward. Every year this team has taken another step," said Roberts, who is 81-100 so far in six seasons at St. John's. "This is one more step in our process of developing and getting better. ... To get into a national tournament like the NIT is awesome."

It's like getting a 45 on a math test, retaking the same test and getting a 51.

Yea, it's progress, but it's pretty embarrassing.

Think it will take Jarvis 6 years to make the NIT?
I think bid is out of pity. Jarvis had a losing record in 00-01,
but that was a much more accomplished team than this one.

They weren't accepted into the NIT, when they very well could have been on the NCAA bubble with a few fluff games. At least Jarvis challenged his players.
