Baldi's take on Norm's job security
« on: January 21, 2010, 10:00:28 AM »
I'll try to make this quick and simple.

IMO Norm needs to make the NCAA tourny or have a good run in the NIT to be brought back next year. Now for St Johns to make the NCAA's, I think they have to beat Villanova this weekend. Thats the start anyway, 1 way or the other.  If this is the case, I know some of you will be hoping for a a Nova ass whipping-but as we know Norm has 9 lives and I can see St Johns beating both Villanova and Pitt!

Kudos to Baldi for being proactive and giving his opinion.

I think you're right, and I think we don't have any chance to do either.

That said...if Baldi is willing to START a thread and give his opinion on Norm's potential departure....pigs are flying...and maybe Norm can beat Nova? ha ha

Anything over 15 wins Norm is back! Book it. Why would they fire Norm if he wins 16 or 17 games? PUblic outcry? The program has 10 fans! No, barring a scandal which would be embarrasing as all hell since Norm's job description should be scandal avoider, nothing short of an oncourt disaster that drums up some bad press and there is no reason for the admin not to continue this disaster!

Whats next?  A proclamation that Chris Wright is better than Malik Boothe?  Or better yet All Big east.

Norm is back no matter what.

Beating Nova and Pitt is one tall order.

I'd be very, very pleased if we could somehow win one of these.

How do you see this happening? What have you seen from the on the court performace to indicate this team is really capable of beating a team like Villanova or PITT at this point..?

Totally agree with you Baldi, except for the part about them beating Villanova and Pitt.  After what I saw in the second half against UConn, I have a hard time believing this team is going to be able to compete with either of those teams.

That being said, I still don't think Father Harrington will be willing to fire him at season's end.  The St. John's fan base is pretty much non-existent at this point, thanks to years of being completely irrelevant.  There is no incentive for the administration to fire him at this point other than school pride, which I know Harrington has little of.  Not to go into a rant, but there is a reason why the school as a whole has gotten worse since Harrington has been the president of it.

By this I meant everytime Norm seems to be on the hot, very hot seat(in posters opinion anyways) He seems to come up with a big win or 2. Just like last year with Notre Dame and the Hoyas twice. Hence my 9 lives reference

What could Norm do from now and Saturday at noon that would prepare the Villanova? Pitt, I have not seen enough of, but clearly they are a very strong team as well.

A lot of games that many here thought would be wins ate looking like games we won't be in 2 minutes into the second half.

That's what everyone thought before Notre Dame at home last year.  Anything can happen.

Doesn't change the team's preparation or Norm's job security, but even DePaul won a game.  Means St. John's could pull a rabbit out the hat too.  marco's kind of right - Norm's done this before.  In 07 against... Notre Dame and Syracuse.  Last year against Notre Dame and Georgetown.

I don't think Nova and Pitt have those teams' weaknesses.

Baldi--how much are you willing to bet that SJU will win both of those games (nova/pitt)?

You mentioned in another thread that SJU had no shot at Uconn and yet both of the above teams are better than Uconn with Calhoun even!

Last night was horrible. The kicker is, the first 10 minutes of the game, Uconn was gross and he could of smacked them around but typical fashion, we have no idea what we are doing.

In fairness to baldi, he did not predict victory.

You can see it meaning you think that they have a shot at winning both games.....I asked how much you are willing to bet on it.

Like the Jets, I would never bet for or against St Johns.

Unless of  course they decide to stop being pusses and schedule the Gaels ;)
