Hewitt

A Hewitt question: we're assuming he gets to top talent in NYC-area.  But what if he can't?  What if the pull of the West Virginia mountains and Louisville, etc, are too much to overcome?

For the record, if he comes, I think he will get a number of the prominent ballers in the area; and I actually hope he doesn't get them all, and finds some lesser-known talents to fill out the rosters.  Every team needs willing role players.

There used to be kids who could play that just want ed to stay home. I have only been to Louisville one time, and IMOP, it's a place you go once. A chance to be a star in NY has got to be alluring enough, but Hewitt needs to sell that, and he needs to go after kids with big brass balls. Not the Landesberg types.

It's impossible to get ALL the city kids, but he has to do a good job of getting the right ones.  It's also important he gets right in with the kids in Jersey as they have some crazy talent coming from there every year.

On a serious note: I am excited about this. For the first time in a while, we have a coach who can recruit with the big boys.

His recruiting class last year was INSANE.  This guy can recruit his arse off.  I fully expect 3-4 top 100 athletes to be here within 45 days of him taking over.

At least you're going into this with realistic expectations.

For a guy who is going to lose Gani Lawal & Derrick Favors and missed on Jelan Kendrick, Kyrie Irving, Taran Buie, Tobias Harris, Travis McKie, Dwight Powell, Okaro White, Rod Odom, Matt Derenbecker, Michael Cobbins, Tobi Oyedeji, etc., but delivered Jason Morris, that's no pressure.
He's very much a feast or famine recruiter. I would expect that his first two years will be better than his third or fourth.

If he, indeed, comes to St. John's, I'll certainly be rooting for him, but I hope the expectations aren't too high from fans.

Mr. Konchalski said the decision to fire Roberts had virtually nothing to do with Monasch. It was the "money people" exerting their influence over Harrington. Although they didn't have a good ending before, he thinks that Jared and Pecora will work well together as recruiters for Fordham.

When did Pecora and Grasso work together?  I haven't followed those cats.

And expectations will be too high.  But you can't get them all... hopefully the AAU guys really like him and send scads of ballers.  It's a risk, because without the players, can he get his teams to score?  The defenses he coaches have been generally decent, with some good moments (but few shotblockers), but the offenses are cringe-worthy.

Agreed.  I just couldn't live with a starting five of all future Nba players.

Not if they went 7-9 in the conference and couldn't get out of each others' way. 

Some coaches can handle the egos.  But even in a group of 5 future pros, you can't have 5 alpha dogs trying to put up 20 per game.  If there are 5 future pros and they want to do different things (like Florida's Noah/ Horford/ Brewer teams, which had 4 pros, if I remember right) it works - Humphrey was the shooting assassin along with Taurean Green, Noah rebounded and ran the floor, Horford was the post scorer and rebounder, Brewer was a slasher and defender (I'm looking at their stats, and I didn't remember that he took that many shots!)... they played roles. 

And let's cross that too-much-talent bridge when we come to it.

Hofstra. It didn't end amicably, but keeping Grasso at Fordham was a stipulation.
