Remember that Monasch doesn't owe anyone the thruth about what is going on. He and Hewitt might have a deal signed, sealed and delivered...but why tell the media right now?

The media is all for themselves...the NYT is all about the news they see fit to print. The media in NY is about selling newspapers, they won't let the truth get in the way of a good story.

All we know is that Pecora is off the list, someone who very few on this site wanted anyway.

BTW, Hewitt's MO sounds very much like Louie...lands talent, not much coaching skills and maybe win a game in the NCAAs every other year.

You could be right, but that kind of skepticism leaves a bad taste.  Keep these 3 things in mind:

1. Hewitt has consistently brought in NBA talent.  Remember Ron Artest? Our last representative.  :'(

2.  Hewitt just played for the ACC championship.  Can you imagine St. John's playing for the Big East championship?

3. Hewitt has coached in the NCAA championship game.  You cant get lucky and get to the NCAA finals.

I know he has had a few down seasons, but the way I see it, he will round off his teams with better supporting cast's here in New York and that may propel him to be a perennial 20 game winner.  The ceiling is crazy for Hewitt here, no one after him comes close.

He can't win with all that talent. That's more frustrating than Norm Roberts not being able to win with mediocre talent.

2000–2001    Georgia Tech    17-13    8-8    T-5th    NCAA 1st Round
2001–2002    Georgia Tech    15-16    7-9    T-5th
2002–2003    Georgia Tech    16-15    7-9    5th    NIT 3rd Round
2003–2004    Georgia Tech    28-10    9-7    T-3rd    NCAA Runner-Up
2004–2005    Georgia Tech    20-12    8-8    T-4th    NCAA 2nd Round
2005–2006    Georgia Tech    11-17    4-12    T-10th
2006–2007    Georgia Tech    20-12    8-8    T-6th    NCAA 1st Round
2007–2008    Georgia Tech    15-17    7-9    T-7th
2008–2009    Georgia Tech    11-17    2-14    12th
2009–2010    Georgia Tech    20-12    7-9    7th    NCAA 2nd Round

Just for arguments sake lets take away his 2 down years, that brings his conference record in the ACC to 61-67.  Not exactly stellar but I think its a little more accurate to show what his average is or what to expect from him.  Even Roy Williams had a down year at arguably the best basketball school of all time.   However, no one gets a pass.

He also isn't scared to be the ACC team to schedule Duke and UNC twice each on the regular schedule, and sometimes play them a 3rd time in the ACC tourny.  I believe in atleast 7 of his seasons at GT they played them each twice.  I'd like to see us start playing Cuse, UConn and Nova twice again...instead of DePaul, Rutgers and USF.

One more thing is, check out the box score for GT vs. UConn in the 04 Championship game.   Not his most impressive team, they had Jack and Bynum and a supporting cast.  In all fairness the game wasn't close.  GT cut a 15 point halftime deficit to 8 with seconds to go.  However, look at Uconn's team: Emeka Okafor, Ben Gordon, Josh Boone, Hilton Armstrong, and Villanueva.  5 NBA'ers still in rotation to this day.  Not to mention a few other very good players.  The point is perhaps if he can land a couple of top class guards, which New York is famous for producing, he can take us far into the tourny too.

Unfortunately we don't control the Big East Schedule, we can only control our out of conference schedule. I believe the ACC everyone plays twice but I am not positive.

I think Hewitt is the right man for the job. We need the recruits to come, and hopefully unlike norm he will hire and X's and O's guy to help him.

Hewitt did almost as well as Fran at the same darn upstate school.

Since then he's brought in mucho Nba talent and gone to the national championship game.  Fran hasn't had a since then.

Hewitt is the better choice.

Don't look at his 10 year ACC record.  Look at his 3 -1 ACC tournament and 1 -1 NCAA tournament record THIS YEAR.

Bring em on.
