As many coaches should be interviewing. If I start hearing about offers then I will be upset. We should have interviewed a ton of people and created value to the position instead of offering and looking like a dumped girl on prom day.
If they are "no brainers" (subjective), I have no problem with offering them. It's the average or middling coaches that I get concerned with.
HoopScoop, for example, claimed that Howland was very close to signing an offer to DePaul. If he's even close to thinking about leaving Westwood, Monasch needs to convince Howland (and his agent) to come out to Manhattan and wine and dine him. Give him the pitch and the money. He's already been successful in the BE and will do whatever it takes to get recruits.
Personally, I can't imagine leaving the Santa Monica area for Queens.
