Just out of curiousity, is anyone not behind this hire? If so please state your reason.

I believe Roberts will be on board.  Just a hunch.

What to do, if Knight, Selby or Lamb take the bait?  Whose scholarship would or should take a backseat, in your opinion?

It's pretty hard not to like this move.

1. School willing to make big time investment to ressurrect program
2. Steve Lavin, a guy who has had success on this level at a big time school, which makes this less of a risk
3. The potential assisstant coaches with strong NY ties to help get the talented players in here.

WHen i though Hewitt was coming here then decided to stay, i was dissappointed b/c i thought there was a big drop off to the next candidates.  Now with everything i'm reading on the boards and in the papers, i am actually more excited abt Lavin and the staff he is bringing in.

To me this was the best possible realistic candidate. Excited for first time in long time. Would be shocked if we are not tourney team next year! Honestly I would have went with the program even if Hewitt,Greenberg or Skinner were hired but I was dubious about all three. I was hoping those three hires didn't happen and eventually we turned to solid mid major guy, but this tops that. Great hire!

I'm not against this hire; I'm cautiously optimistic, especially with respect to recruiting.  I have no idea what his offensive and defensive principles are going to be (and if he is creative in changing them to fit personnel).  His UCLA teams played fast and both by memory and by the numbers, were sometimes indifferent to defense.  I'd like to know that he'll be a better defensive coach in the Big East, where sometimes you've got to bludgeon your opponent into submission...

Then again, I was big on Willard, who is looking to hire Tiny Morton, and I want NO part of that.  Lavin is a bit of a splash and a good story if he can resurrect his career here.

I just became a Saint John's about a week ago because I saw an opportunity for a fresh start with Roberts being fired. I don't know the school or college basketball in general that well yet but i've learned a ton already from everyone here and if the consensus is Lavin is a great hire, then i'm on board for sure. With all of this speculation over the past week or so I just wanted a coach already. Now we have one and i'm really excited.

Lavin seems to be bringing all of the ingredients needed to turn our team around and i'm really happy that he WANTED to come here. Welcome Mr. Lavin and thank you for jumping at a challenge and an opportunity to make something special.

I've refused to comment since Norm was fired and this circus started. Too many rumors to get too high or too low. But I love this hire if the "dream team" staff is assembled as it has been rumored. This brings immediate excitement and juice back to the program. Lavin will get a standing O on Opening Night at CA in November. My friend had a great idea, the student section should gel their hair back in honor of our new leader!

The real question is will he still have the Jungle's undying support if he does not bribe them with pizza :)

YES! Love it. Feels good to actually be a SJU fan again after enduring the past 7 or 8 years of misery.

100% on board.  Lavn should be on the phone with Doron Lamb shortly.  Sell him on the Baron Davis comparison.  Similar players.

I think you'd have to be on life support not to be excited about this hire!

Glad the search is over.....I am excited but very interested in who is going to be on his staff. This is critical more so cause this guy has been out of coaching/recruiting trail for so long. Regardless of who they brought in....I ALWAYS ROOT for STJ!!
