ND is going to join because they will make millions from the big ten network. Much more then from nbc.

I've seen estimates that ND would make 22 mil from Big 10 and 12 mil is their current NBC deal.  But they have total autonomy.  Trust me, ND doesn't need the 10 mil.  They have plenty of funds and donors.  They will not make the move for $$.  If they make the move, it's because they feel it's a disservice to the football team because of how the BCS/bowls will shakedown.  If they can have a similar deal with BCS/bowls, ND stays independent.  No doubt about it.

You really know nothing about ND or their principles if you think otherwise.

Do the incoming teams have to "Buy" their way into the conference ?

Is there any penalty for leaving the Big East ?
I think there was a discussion a few years back when BC left.

And I dont see why they would want Rutgers, unless they think
they can make big money from NY/NJ cable, & I doubt they can.

I believe its $5M to buy out of the Big East.  Some have suggested a buy in for teams to the Big 10, but that hasn't been determined.  Surely they wouldn't make ND buy in, if ND actually wanted in.

Notre Dame would like to stay independent. They like everything it offers. They get special treatment from the BCS. They also like getting paid 12/13 million yearly from NBC. What I have read that all Big 10 schools are currently making 22 million. Adding ND would only make that number go up. At the very least it is 10 million a year more. 10 years= 100 million. That is alot of doner money to make up. Autonomy and principals are great. BUt ND doesnt want to get left behind.College football is changing they are going to have to change with it. I am not happy with it. But what from I have read joining the Big 10 is very likely.

I think it's time to split.  If I remember correctly, we would retain the Big East name.  If we try to stay together after the Big Ten raids, it will just be a patch-job and we will lose the identity.

I think it's almost a certainty they'd add Temple, Memphis, and ECU.  What happens when the ACC comes calling for Uconn?  How many changes can this conference withstand?

If the b 10 takes 3 be teams, the rest of the football teams, I think, go to other conference.  Create a non-football, catholic school league and add xavier and another school or two like dayton, st louis, etc.
