gonzalo has not said anything worth battering him for...you can not disagree that this move is puzzling on more than some levels...obviously when you have a hot shot recruiter and all star staff come in, you dont expect to go out to arizona and offer a kid with no D-1 offers, headed to juco, a scholarship on your team...none of us saw this coming...but considering the past 6 months in this program there has to be some explanation...it could be hes viewed as a project, which with this staff, could turn out to be a real gem of a player (go check the offers gordon hayward had out of hs and how many recruiting services even rated him)...this could be a favor to someone (remember the type of recruiter lavin is reputed to be) to open the doors for something bigger...this could simply be the staff saying, screw it, we have 9 scholarships to fill next year, we'll take a chance on this kid, and if he doesnt pan out, who cares, we still got 8 to use on top 100 prospects next year...bc if this kid turns out to be the worst college basketball player of all time, the only way it comes back to bite the staff in the ass, is if they dont sign who they are supposed to next year...and if they dont do that, they have bigger problems than the previous years stupid signing anyway

Battering?  Didn't realize I was battering someone by having a conversation with them.

For all the facts dealing with regards to Perez' lack of a ranking and schools after him I guess all the other facts of two other 2010 studs who unfortunately are running into eligibility issues and the insane amount of Top 100 players we are after in 2011 shouldn't be giving a staff on the job for less than 6 months benefit of the doubt.  I'm still waiting for the 2010 players that we are passing on in place of Perez.

I still can't get over all the negative talk for the 13th player on a team.

They are definitely using the ship because they need to have people returning the year after next.  Right now its Malik, Quincy and Polee.  Still leaves 9 scholarships even if Perez comes.  If Perez came I doubt he would see much time this year.  But a year under his belt and the tuteldge of Dunlap and Hines would make him servicable with the presumed stud class of 2011.

Lastly the Omari reasoning is wrong as well.  If Omari wanted to be here, he could be here.  I think that's the easiest way of saying it without offending anyone.

Gonzalo - how often did you doubt norm for sean evans, paris horne, etc.?  I could be wrong, but I don't think you did. Lavin has only had since april - why doubt him?  What's he supposed to do?

I do think you guys are getting a little hard on Gonzalo. He's allowed to be cautious in his enthusiasm. He's not bashing or being negative towards Lavin what so ever.

For every DJ Kennedy there is there is another 10 Tyshwan Edmondsons so I can see why anyone would be reserved to signing any kid this late in the game.

We are not being hard on him bc he has shown a history of supporting the coach and now he is being cautious? Why? That's what I want an answer to.

I criticized those who bashed norm for his signings in his first 2+ yrs and now we have a coach who actually has a track record we can trust.

Anyone who is being negative, even slightly, about our 13th man when lacin only started in april has got a real problem.

Do you really think Gonzalo has some agenda?

You guys are way too sensitive.  How could we not question signing a guy that had ZERO offers?  It's not like we are calling for Lavin's head.  My comment about a misstep was more about the miscommunication...which may or may not be Lavin's fault.  I'm starting to think that maybe Lavin asked him to walk on and get a ship his sophomore year or possibly his freshman year if Barry can't qualify.  It's really not that big of a deal...you guys are making it one.

I don't think gonzalo has an agenda, but he is being more negative about something so meaningless during a time that lavin should have a free pass.

Any negativity now is the exact reason why many fans did not think we could get a big time coach.  Its absurd.  Come on baldi, back me up on this

Thank god for lavs

Jim Calhoun has an agenda. Jim Boeheim has an agenda. Gonzalo, like the rest of us, has an opinion.

The fact is the kid has not signed with us as of right now and a lot of signs are pointing to him never coming here.  Coupled with the lack of reliability from the AZ papers that think STJ is part of the Big 5 in Philly, that should be enough of a reason to stop the questioning.

I suppose that this will be my last post in this thread. In no particular order:

1. I recognize that I defended Norm many times, but only when I think that it was reasonable. For example, I never defended Norm when New York City recruits chose other Big East Schools.

2. I wish, want and have confidence in Lavin (and his staff) outrecruiting Big East schools for very good players.

3. My only agenda is to go back to New York City and see St. John´s games in Madison Square Garden.

4. It is possible that I have not made negative comments about other players (Evans, Horne,...). Ironically those posters have dissapeared in the three forums.

It's all good, Gonzalo - your opinion is not ridiculous, so don't feel the need to stop posting in this thread.  It's all good.

Great to hear KOB I was going to give Lavin the benefit of the doubt but from what I have read and heard this kid would be a stretch to play here. Don't mind the idea of him walking on at all

Agenda was used by jumpin.  I never said Gonzalo had an agenda.  I said he didn't have one.  Don't know why my use of the word after jumpin asked me a Q is getting so much play.
