SNY, the television home of the New York Mets, Jets and Big East Conference, in conjunction with The University of Connecticut today announced a comprehensive, multi-year partnership that makes SNY "the official television home of the UConn Huskies football and men's basketball programs". Beginning this September, SNY will annually feature 300 hours of UConn programming -- including 120 hours of Huskies game coverage -- with unprecedented access to UConn coaches and players. Additionally, SNY will significantly expand its UConn sports coverage throughout its sports news and entertainment programming, including its critically acclaimed SportsNite show -- which airs Monday-Sunday at 10pm, 1am and throughout the morning. SNY will also create a UConn Huskies sports section on the network's website -- www.SNY.tv -- which will feature original content, including video and a dedicated UConn Huskies blog....

When the college basketball season tips off, SNY's all-access pass will feature at least 13 UConn Men's basketball contests and a minimum of one Women's basketball contest each season. In addition to the network's live basketball games -- and SNY's expanded coverage throughout its sports news and entertainment programming -- UConn fans will also receive the following SNY programming dedicated to the UConn basketball program:

• Comprehensive UConn Huskies Men's basketball Season Preview Show

• In-Depth Pre-Game Shows Prior to Select SNY-Televised UConn Basketball Games

• UConn Huskies Season-in-Review Special

• Re-airs of Every UConn Huskies basketball Game Shown on SNY

• SNY Spotlight with Men's Head Basketball Coach Jim Calhoun and Women's Head Basketball Coach Geno Auriemma

This makes me sick, but whatever.  Jim Calhoun's statement about it saying he most likes that most of the homes are in the NY area and that will give them an upper hand in recruiting really bothered me.  I can't stand that they are trying to make UCONN New York's team but the only way for us to negate that is win.  My only question is if this will have any impact on the way we are televised.  I loved the Big East Pre and Post game shows on SNY but I guess that is now gone for the most part.  Also it's going to bother me that their analysis of the Big East Tourney will come from a UCONN slant.

For a huge college football fan who watches games all day I can honestly say I will watch zero SNY coverage of UCONN. Basketball wise I dont think it help them that much. Casual college fans turn on ESPN for basketball and football. Look what happened to hockey on Versus. When the NHL was on espn i might watch occasionally, but since it is on Versus I havent watched at all.

I don't see this being a big deal at all. We has MSG network and SNY televises all big east basketball games anyways. This is more a football thing than anything.

Big east needs to step it up and create their own network like the big 10

Only thing about a BE network is that in the networks, it seems that football brings in the big audiences.  And Big East football doesn't have that level of football.  Plus, I'm not sure how strong the demand for the network would be in the Big East imprint (since cable companies choose to carry it or not); yes, the league has touch in Chicago, but it's DePaul. People barely go to games here.  The league's best football is probably in Pitt or Cincy, and neither's a big market.

I bet they could get a network off the ground, but it def won't bring in as much money as any of the other networks or SEC's deal.

A big east network wouldn't work bc of football unless they convinced nd and penn state to join.

Wouldn't Court TV would've been a better fit?  ;)
