Lavin said two who might do that are guard Dwight Hardy, who has become "as good a shooter as I've worked with," and 6-7 Justin Brownlee, "who has become as gifted a player as we have on the team."

-I am interested to see how Lavin works with our lineup.  The two big question marks for me were between Hardy/Horne and Brownlee/Evans.  I think everyone will get time but I am interested to see who starts and more importantly who is in at the end of the game.

Lavin started Polee,DJ, Horne, Hardy, Boothe. While I admire the concept of playing your best 5 and doing things "outside the box", I do not think you could get away with that lineup.

Gotta think with Burrell healthy he replaces Horne, which then makes more sense...

That said, unlike our previous coach, perhaps Lavin and staff are intelligent enough to attack another team's weaknesses with all the weapons we have.  Against some teams, a small lineup like that could work.

From the Post article:  "Lavin loves Boothe's toughness, but laments the lack of a true
backup point guard
and wonders if any other player has his 5-foot-8 floor leader's steel. "

I wonder if Len Robbins quoted Laven, or took him out of context,
or Lavin views Stith as a SG or he was trying to put stith on notice ?

I'm not questioning anything Lavin Does. Maybe Polee and Kennedy are the best rebounders and interior defenders we have?
That wouldn't shock me. I do recall him saying that Dwight Hardy impressed him early on, and apparently Lavin knows that the same exact line up that went 7-13, shouldn't be out there.

Thank God it won't be.

Stith was a hair better than Tyshawn Edmonson last year.
He'll need to improve considerably to get any pt next year.

This sounds like he hasn't.

note: from the player bios http://www.redstormsports.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/stith_malik00.html

Steve Lavin On Stith: "Malik is a catch-and-shoot guy, especially in the middle part of the floor. He is a player who can help make the team better by his ability to distribute the ball to those in a position to score. He is tough defensively, a real ball-hawk. His leadership skills are at their best when he is vocal."

The first two sentences don't quite work with each other. Catch and shoot guy but makes the team better when he distributes to others?

The first sentence must be a mistake.  He was 0/6 from 3 point range last year and the look of his shot (ugly line drive) did nothing to show me he can ever be a lights out shooter.  I didn't realize that he had a decent assist/turnover ratio last year which gives me some hope for him.

But he hardly assisted on any baskets!  Maybe Lav's talking from practice.

Anyone else think Evans is in the doghouse already?

Coach didn't mention his name once tonight.

He did. However, mention 3 names multiple times: Polee, Hardy and Brownlee.

I thought there was already talk of Evans being in the doghouse.  Though Sean did say he learned a lot from a film session with coach.

Remember, also, that Lavin is a media friendly, media savvy guy.  Norm never tweaked his players in the media; Lavin has done that from time to time (at least he did at UCLA).  If you don't hear your name called, you got to step the **** up!

I told you this in the summer. It hasn't gotten any better. Don't expect Sean to play too much this season.

Lavin said 12-13. That is the year when we will really make a difference on the national stage.
