Calm Before The Storm- Lavin's First Expo: Westwood [JohnnyJungle.com]

The exhibition game is here! Westmont comes from California for a sightseeing trip to New York. They’ll see a little Manhattan, see lovely Jamaica Queens, see a whole lot of white and red names and numbers running to the other basket, styling on dunks.

It’ll be a nice trip for them. Westmont’s coach John Moore is married to Steve Lavin’s older sister; it’ll be a nice bit of family time for them as well.

Westmont played UCLA at Pauley Pavilion and took the expected beating, but exposed some flaws in the Bruins – the 3-point shooting, and some half-court defensive issues.

St. John’s already comes with questions. Great change needs to be installed by the coaching staff to make this tough and plucky crew into a formidable Big East squad with real aspirations to reach the NCAA Tournament. What will change? From Gene Keady’s comment about the spacing from the NY Daily News, one hopes the questionable clumping of players that has plagued the team on fast breaks and on defense in previous years is improved.

Is this a legit game or will they be stopping play and setting up certain situations?

We have new walk-ons as well. If I'd known I would have added that to the Questions in the CBTS. One of the walk-ons is a transfer from LIU who didn't get much time there, Jamal White.

Just walked of the Alumni.

Poor Westmont. Man, did they suffer one serious beat down.

Starting 5: Boothe, Hardy, DJ, Brownlee and Bambi.

My recap:

We're a different team. We run the break, and we finish. We man up on defense. We follow shots.

Brownlee looked like NBA player tonight.
Polee is incredibly athletic. He makes it look easy. Great touch around the basket.
Boothe played like he did at the end of last season. DJ was DJ. Evans has stopped dribbling. Coker is hustling. Horne was fine. Hardy was great. Stith was okay. Roberts was okay.
