Offensive Fouls

Do the refs get paid extra for calling offensive fouls or is it just fun for them to emphatically point the other way?

This year it seems they are calling it a lot more.  Even when offensive players are in the air they allow the defender to sneak in underneath.  They also have to do something about this flopping.  These refs need to be schooled on this...Everybody is acting like Duke now and people are flopping all over the place.

When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

I was telling a friend the same thing on Saturday.  This "flopping" has gotten ridiculous and many times you can tell whether it's a flop or a legitimate offensive foul.  I love college basketball.  But, I'll say this is a part of it that I truly hate.

Everybody is acting like Shane Battier, lately.  He took it (charging calls) to another level, during his days at Duke, with the flopping.  I hated it then and even worse now since it has spreaded like a stomach bug throughout college basketball.

The NCAA needs to discuss this during the offseason.  It takes away from game, if you ask me.

I thought the refs were supposed to use discretion close to the basket this year; but I didn't notice any change.  They need to go to the same rule as the NBA--no charging within 3 feet of the basket with the use of the semicircle.

Refs do love offensive foul calls.  And the higher up the ladder you go,  the more of them you see.  Cyo and Jr. High refs always call blocking while Ncaa refs have charging left and right.

98% of all fouls are still on the defense.  Refs like to step in with the much rarer, emphatic offensive foul.

It's the toughest call in sports.  I think they call it so emphatically to make it look more convincing.  I actually don't have a problem with the # of charging calls.  It's what coaches teach.  When you see somebody rumbling to the basket, beat them to the spot and take the charge.  It helps level the playing field for teams that don't have 7 foot shot-blockers.
