During next week’s Frankie Williams Charity Classic, longtime college basketball coach Fred Quartlebaum will be inducted into the Frenji Legends Circle.

The Dobbs Ferry native and 1985 Stepinac graduate will be honored at halftime of the fourth annual Williams Charity Classic at the Theodore D. Young Community Center in Greenburgh. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. and will include several area stars, notably Journal News players of the year Jabarie Hinds of Mount Vernon and Luke Houston of Pearl River, as well as Division I commits P.J. Torres of New Rochelle and Matt Townsend of Horace Greeley.

Quartlebaum will become the third member of the Legends Circle. He played four years at Fordham and graduated in 1989. He then spent 18 18 seasons as a coach at the Division I level, with stops at the following: Navy, Towson, Holy Cross, Fairfield, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Iowa State and most recently at St. John’s. Quartlebaum is now the owner of his own community basketball effort called 212 Hoops Academy based out of his hometown of Dobbs Ferry.

Quartlebaum will join the Legends Circle with 2009 inductee Kenny Anderson and 2010 inductee Danya Abrams.
