God'sgift on campus...when will the others follow?

There have been some questions about eligibility of a few of the incoming recruits, but the first has officially made his way to Queens.

With all the chatter about certain players qualifying and others not, how do you think the whole situation shakes out? And, yes, that is the official way God'sgift spells his name, per the school's press release.

Fwiw, Pelle said he's heading o SJU/NYC on July 11th per twitter.  Nurideen is in NYC now per twitter, but I don't know if he'll be at SJU or if this is just a trip.  I personally dont think we'll have a big problem with kids qualifying.  Just a hunch.

I'm most apprehensive about Nuri.  He had so much work to do to catch up.  Now he doesn't have to complete his classes at Redlands.  In theory he could take classes here or in Philly.  Would just like to know more there.

For St. John's basketball fans, God'sgift has arrived.

Junior big man God'sgift Achiuwa, a 6-9, 240-pound bruising JUCO All-American from Port Harcourt, River States, Nigeria via Erie Community College (N.Y.), is now in his third week on campus, attending St. John's Summer I classes. Several members of head coach Steve Lavin's consensus No. 3 recruiting class are expected to join their new teammate when Summer II classes begin in July.

"It's been a very nice experience transitioning from junior college to a four-year college. I really enjoy it down here so I feel very appreciative to be in this kind of environment," said Achiuwa. "The campus is kind of empty. You don't have too many people taking summer classes so it's kind of good. You can study and it's kind of quiet, but there are also good things about it because you are a little bit more focused on academics."

It seems some others will be here soon, according to an earlier report.

A lot of chatter on SH and Rutgers rival boards about some of our recruits still being questionable to qualify.

They are basing that on Zags' tweet from a  week or so ago.

In other words they don't have any inside information.

And to add, there is also lot of chatter on SJU boards about Mike Rice's beady eyes and how his head is about to explode during timeouts.  And also how Kevin Willard is going to be compared to a poor man's Norm Roberts among BE coaches.

In other words, those fans are bursting with envy.  They are hoping against hope the recruits to be ineligible.

As good a coach as Rice is (and he still has more to prove at this level), and as good a class he has coming in, there is still a sizeable gap between NJ State's class and Lavin's. Rice will always have a smaller pool from which to recruit than Lavin, because he isn't a big name outside the North East.

And as far as Seton Hall goes, yeesh what a mess.  They won't see the light of day in the BE for a long while.

SJU is in a different league now.  When the program was run like a little Catholic school in Queens, rather than the only major college basketball program in NYC, no one cared.  Now the program is recruiting players that are going to put us on a path to national prominence.  Other schools complaining about cheating and such just confirms it.

Welcome to the big leagues.

Well said, marbles.  Those bloggers on the The Hall's and Rutgers' board wanna see us down at all cost.  Hopefully, all of our 2011 recruits are eligible, so those jokers can have egg all over their faces.  I also hope we beat the snot outta both teams during the 2011-2012 season and for the duration.

It's gonna be fun to see more fans of other schools get a bit uneasy about the Johnnies in the near future.

When are St. John's summer sessions?  When do they start/finish?
