5 Reasons I Could Not Root For Duke

Newest Column of Johnny Jungle called "Stormy Waters" (yes this is a porn stars name which I didn't know until I tried googling to see if the new page came up). Matt Waters a sophomore Journalism Major is the newest edition to the staff. He reminds me of a young Bill Simmons and I think he is going to bring plenty of interesting and funny reads to the site. i dug the stormy waters section.  solid.

and i've always kinda liked duke.  loved grant hill when he was there.

I went on to a bunch of duke blogs and message boards and I posted the link to this article and its hilarious some of he posts I've gotten in return. Some thought it was funny and original while others were so uptight about it which is why everyone dislikes duke. This by far was the best...

As far as your 5 reasons you'll never root for Duke, maybe I can help refute your points.

1. You place the desolate one on a pedestal.
I suggest you check out this link, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_Blue_Devils#History_of_the_mascot , as to the origin of our Blue Devils.

2. You paint your faces
Name me a basketball powerhouse whose fans don't paint their face?

3. You rooted for a guy who lied to a blind man
This situation is a totally "he said, she said" situation. The Cavs thought they could sign Boozer on the cheap.

4. You root for a team well-stocked with Super Geeks
Your right, to a certain degree, is doesn't seem fair to be so smart and so athletic. However, I believe their is a balance between the two, which a person can't be a super geek and a super athlete. One is always compromised, as both are truly acquired skills, although you must have an aptitude for both.

Let's take one of your own for instance, Stephon Marbury. This guy is a super-stud athlete, possibly the most skilled point guard in the NBA, yet he may be the dumbest. He isn't smart enough to harness his skills and attitude, to become a complete team player. Teams can't wait to get rid of him, despite his natural talent.

Shane Battier on the other hand makes up for lack of athleticism, with smarts, unselfishness, and will power. He literally could kill Marbury with his brain, if he wanted to. Despite Battier being less talented, teams clamor for a player such as Battier.

5. Duke doesn’t play in New York
Hometown pride is nice and all, but NY is Duke's second home. Heck, most graduates are either from NY or work in NY. They may not be your typical New Yorker, but none the less, Duke is NY, NY is Duke. Embrace it and love it.

Of course, these are just a light-hearted response to your 5 reasons, but the more I read your article, it's like you are trying to find reasons not to pull for Duke. I suggest you pray about it, ask God to show you the light, and find yourself a Duke-friendly bar, where you can be immersed in a sea of true Duke believers.

I certainly appreciate the viewpoints expressed by this reader. He voices his opinions in a reasonable, intelligent fashion. 

The Boozer situation is a classic he said/she said situation, but in the article, I decided to side with Cavs management. For me, there was just no reason for them to decline that four hundred grand option without the story being true. It just wouldn’t make sense otherwise. I think Boozer and his agent are at fault here, but I could be wrong. Just my opinion…

As for every fan-base of a college basketball power house painting their faces… I say this… Uh…
