Philly Big 5 - New York College Basketball Challenge?

The Big Five men's and women's basketball conference, in hopes of polishing its old reputation for dramatic rivalries at a time when fat TV contracts have made bigger state-school programs rich and well-known, is negotiating a fall 2012 basketball tournament that would pit Philadelphia's schools against a band of New York schools.

Tom Muldoon is leading the effort. It proposes that Penn, Villanova, St. Joe's, Temple, and La Salle have tournament-style, head-to-head matches with Fordham, Columbia, Manhattan, Iona, and another New York City-area schools.

When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

This would be great! Why no mention of St Johns?

We have so many high profile match ups this season, why should we add a game that would do nothing for us?

I don't think NY should compete with another city.

I dont think St Johns would have a problem demolishing all of those teams(Philly or Ny besides Cuse,Nova), especially when these guys are sophomores

As for Iona, I believe the Gaels are playing St Joes in New Rochelle this season. Also they might get a shot at playing Temple in the Puerto Rico tipoff tourny, both winnable games

Roberts average 6 pts 4 boards and 19 mins per game. They also got that big Halil Kanacevic from Hofstra becoming eligible. Looks like they have a few 6'8 guys who can play
