Anyone else not a fan of being down 2 coaches on the bench with Lavin and Chiles as well missing the past few games.
No! TC is doing what he was hired to do during high profile tourneys where at least 3 prospective recruits are playing. What difference would he make on the bench? Our starters play over 35 minutes and rarely sit. Rico Hinds is more active in-games even when Lav coaches.
Let me introduce you Mo Hicks and Gene Keady who the players should pay to be around.

I thought we were trying to teach these 'pups' as Dunlap said. Only so much time in a time out to go around the huddle and correct the problems. You are allowed 4 coaches (not counting Dobo). Remember Keady cannot communicate with the players. And Dobo's cant even attend practice I believe. One coach down is fine. Two is pushing it to me.
Where was Chiles yesterday?
Actually about 30 seconds are spent telling players to "press but don't foul", set up a specific play or point out a weakness in the offense or defense. Then back on the floor. Where Tony Chiles fits into that I am not sure but if you have been to most home games like the Providence game, you will notice that coach Dunlap likes to pace and set up at the end of the bench. During the game the most active coach is Rico who stands and directs the players constantly. Mo Hicks is very active with the players and very vocal. Keady is there to take notes for discussion at half time and after the games.
Tony Chiles just basically sits on the bench and may say a word to a player seated next to him but that is about it. In huddles TC is the least involved of the coaches, even when Lav is around. His job is recruiting....period!
As for "WHERE WAS HE?", he was where we expected him to be over the weekend. Sitting next to coach Lavin at the HoopHall tourney in Springfield. He was there Monday night to watch Mater Dei and SJ target Stanley Johnson. The game ended at around 7:00 pm. The following day he worked the post-game circuit -- that was Tuesday. The SJ team left from LaGuardia on Jet Blue at around 2 pm Tuesday for the Wednesday game in Tampa.

Agree that Chiles needs to be out recruiting. Dunlap and Rico can handle games. That's more than enough. Most important things right now are landing a big 2012 class and Lavin on the bench healthy next year. As long as Lavin is healing and he and TC are reeling in 2012 talent, we are rosy.
Absolutley 100% correct MC! Priority #1 is getting 4 more quality players, two of whom can be starters, not just contributors. We do not need TC on the bench at all. Even though Mo Hicks is not an assistant he is well respected by the players and as some who have known over the years know, he is a great great coach and kids love him. There was a time during the search for a replacement for Jarvis that some SJ supporters put forth his name. He would have been a better selection than Norm Roberts IMO. We would not have lost a Kemba or a Harvey or any of the good point guards Norm lost with him as coach.
Rico, more than coach Dunlap, is a game coach as when Lav coached last year and works very closely with the players individually. There is a reason NBA players seek him out. Coach D is a great practice coach, knows x&o better than anyone except the great coach Keady.
Lavin is doing what he does best with TC right now and that is sell the program. Like the NBA model it is the GM that selects the new players and not the coach and we have the luxury right now to have our coach be a GM away from the bench while he gets his stamina back. When it does come back, especially next year, there are only 2 or 3 Big East coaches that will be able to challenge him for recruits.
