Willie Shaw had a great frosh season considerin he wudn't the most highly recruited brother of all time.

14 ppg
38 percent from 3.

Great call choz. He had a nice stroke and was long, alot of potential. Did he have any other high offers?

There is a mary jane joke in there somewhere.

Sexual joke also for someone to stomp on.

I cant remember, did Shaw start right away his freshmen year? What was the starting 5?

Three frosh

PG: Omar
SG: Willie
C: Kyle Cuffe
PF: Anthony Glover
SF: Reggie Jessie

Beat No. 12 Kentucky in their first game CvC. Other game? Kansas defeated UCLA and a coach all y'all  know real well.

Lots of local talent on that squad

First Artest is for the guy who came off the bench. The next is for the starter

Shaw did have a fine freshmen campaign alongside assist master Cook.

Tallied the 2nd highest three-point total ever in Johnny history that amazing season.

He is in my top 5 fav all time Johnnies and Knicks. He should have started over Moses but his frosh season was no better than Willie Glass. Louie is to blame for Jackson's pedestrian first two seasons. In fact if memory serves he started at shooting guard half of his frosh season.

Your memory is accurate.  Starting five at the beginning of the season was Bill Wennington, Ron Stewart, Willie Glass, Chris Mullin and Mike Moses although Chris missed a few eary games due to tendinitis and Bob Antonelli started.  Midway through the season, Ron was replaced by Jeff Allen, Chris moved to the 3 and Mark moved to the 2.

Willie's pal Ben wanted to come along with him. Coach Jarvis discouraged him by discussing the guys he would be playing behind. I don't know who those guys were, but Ben would'a been Jarvis's best recruit ever. He might have changed the course of stuff that happened after.

Yup. And Ben did not look it, but he was a strong kid. Kinda like a publisher turning down J.K.R. and the Harry Potter books. Jarvis shoulda got out of the business right then.

who? Ben gordan?

Shaw could have been so much better. I have no idea what happened to him. He got progressively worse every year.

A while back he and Hatten got in a bit of trouble smokin in public not far from the school. A bit after that he was playin with a Globtrotter team that played exhibitions with D1 teams, helping them get ready for season. It was a team that played it straight. Willie had gained a few, and looked good.

I really thought that Shaw was going to turn into a star here while watching him as a freshman.  He had knee problems his sophmore year and things were never the same.  Got into trouble a couple of times for violating rules (including missing the NCAA's because of a transgression) his sophmore year before eventually being dismissed from the team.

I saw Gordon a couple of times in H.S. and thought he was a really good player.  I had heard to that he really wanted to come here.  I guess when the players Jarvins was talking about him playing behind (assuming it was before he picked up Hatten) was Omar Cook and Shaw.  Still, he could have brought Gordon regardless especially since the kid had to know those two were a year in front of him and still wanted to come.

I remember one game when i was in sixth grade against BC in the big east tournament. I went home sick to watch the game. Shaw played really well down the stretch but a freshmen named Craig Smith killed us down the end.

Ya I mixed that up. Confused Abrams and Craig Smith. I figured the years were off. I think that team lost to Florida with Meat Hook Demetri Hill and Andrew Declerq(sp)
