Rest of the Non Conference Schedule
« on: November 30, 2012, 01:24:45 PM »
Our next 5 games;   NJIT, San Francisco, Fordham, St Francis, and UNC Ashville

- Those teams are a combined 11-17
- none have beaten a mid-major, let alone a BCS conference team
- arguably the best win amongst them is San Fran's win over Columbia
- 4 of the 5 are home games for St Johns

Admittedly, UNC Ash lost to a good NC State by 2 on the road.

Even after last night I still think our team has some weaknesses, but looking it over - there is no excuse for this team to not going into conference play 10-2.
The coaching staff has to make sure these guys stay focus, continue to work on their fundamentals (boxing out, setting picks, passing) and take care of business against teams we should beat.

I expect 9-3. Anything else would be unacceptable and would make it extremely difficult to make the tourney

The best team we will face until the BE schedule will be in practice.

Are you expecting a specific loss or just doing the usual negative STJ fan outlook ;)

To me, the key here is to treat every game like a big one. We must win these 5 games.

What do we know about San Francisco? IS UNC Asheville still a player?

Flying cross country and playing a game I think we lose to USF unless they are as bad as South Carolina

We need to win all 5 - no excuses.
Huge disappointment if we don't.   These are not good opponents.

And not only should we be winning, but this is a stretch where we should be cleaning up our mistakes and improving from game to game.  Taking things from practice into the games as they say.

Ashville has lost their last 6 games to opponents like Providence, Tennessee, NC State, but also Akron UNC Wilmington, and something called USC Upstate.
San Fran has a smaller sample size; 12 pt loss to Stanford, and wins over American Univ and Columbia by 20 (remember Columbia beat Nova handidly).

So WASJU is right, San Fran appears to be our toughest opponent.

Still - we need to win these games.   This is the easiest part of our schedule - guys need to stay focused on one opponent at a time.

The last time we won 7 consecutive games was Nov 22 to Dec 20 2008. In case you were wondering. It was the usual murderers row of schools Norm lined up to try and pad his record.

10-2 would make 8 in a row
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

Forgot we had won 3 in a row already, so yeah would make 8 in a row. You might have to back to the Elite 8 team

San Fran lost to Stanford by 12 on the road.  Game will be a tossup.

They've got a 6'6" SF who averages 20ppg shooting 60% from 3 (calling Sir Dom)
They've got a 6'7 230 lb PF who's averaging 13 reb (19 against Stanford)

If  JaKarr and Chris O. don't learn to box out real quick... we're in for a long plane ride home

Don't make Stanford out to be a Final Four team; they've lost to mighty Belmont and the gophers of Minnesota already.
SF will be tough, but it's a game we should win if we're going to make any noise this season.
