"with what  he was given to work with?" what does this mean?

An irrelevant program, overhauling an entire roster with the only real player returning a Div. II point guard. In year 2 of a rebuilding process, Lavin's got us 6-4 in the BE with a lot of promising young talent. But, because we're not as good as Syracuse, our fan base will just bitch and moan about substitution patterns they wish they had seen in a 12 point loss to Georgetown.

6-4 now but at seasons end, which is all that counts, do you realy believe we will be over 500? We have had the benefit of the easier part of the schedule to date?  And wait, why are youbshocked with minimal success with so many top 50 recruits?

There's the negativity we love from Realfan. They are young top 50 recruits. Next year we are a tourney team or I will eat my words.

Oh wait is that how it is?  If one states the obvious, they are negative.  Once again, the Realfan reference?  Calling me negative 212, would be like calling you stupid? I happen to think your ideas are quite idiotic at times but I don't come out and attack you for it.  I tolerate all opinions on here even though I disagree with many.  And what is negative about stating the obvious?  Have we not had the easier part of the schedule to date, not aving played Louisville, Syracuse or Marquette? Do we not have top 50 talent which while young, one leads the nation in blocked shots and the other leads the BE in freshman scoring?  Where do you see negativity? Are you sure that you and booboo are not Red Storm lady cheerleaders?

Looking at our 6-4 record, there are 3 ways of looking at it.

1.) We are a middle/top half BE team. A young team who have finally turned the corner. NCAA tournament on the horizon if we keep it up. (This is the positive outlook)
2.) We are a middle of the pack BE team. We have won 5 of our last 6 BE games. We look like a completely different team than we did early on. We benefited from the easy part of our schedule, but 10-8 or 11-7 is not out of the question. NIT team, or NCAA bubble team (Realistic).
3.) We only have 6 wins because of the easy schedule we just played. We won't finish .500 in the BE. We have not turned any corner. (This is you.)

Call me stupid all you want, but while Obekpa may lead in blocks, he has tons of work to do on defense and offense. Jakarr needs a lot of polishing.

That's the point, I would never call you stupid if I disagreed with you as you shouldn't call me negative for having an opinion.  But the players who are most labeled as " young", lead the nation and Big East in different categories.  Our Sophs have logged more minutes then most seniors on most teams. I never stated "we have not turned any corner" I just stated that the schedule is getting tougher now and the results may not be as good as our current record indicates.

Posting on this site is getting tiring as I have to defend every post I make., get called Realfan and then negative.  I actually believe we had made progress in that we are now winning the games we are supposed to win, just not ones (albeit a surprise) where the talent is equal or better, but that would be on the staff.  Have to admit that I am disappointed with our recruiting results this year as real needs will once again be with us next year.

We only have 2 ships and still some time to go.  We could end up with Rysheed or Severe and some other big guy and fill our needs very appropriately.  Even the Hall found and unknown transfer from southern Illinois in Gene Teague that absolutely killed us.  Everybody was disappointed with our recruiting class early last year too.  One area I don't doubt Lavin is on the recruiting trail.  We've had some bumps, but he has still recruited better than anybody could possibly have imagined here at SJU.  Not sure why people don't think we will land at least 1 or 2 very good players.  Some people just pumping negative vibes to get a rise I think.

We have 1 ship.

Yeah, you're right.  Yet it seems that people are expecting a huge recruiting haul.  We land one player and unless somebody leaves, the class is filled.  I am also a bit disappointed losing Lawrence because he's a nice talent and local.  He isn't our biggest need, but he and Rysheed are the best on the board it seems.  Doesn't mean we still can't fill needs.

How about a 6'11" true center with a nose for the ball on the defensive glass?  Doesnt have to be a top 100, nba prospect, holy s* athlete.  The big 10 always has like 20 of these kinds of competent big men.

Oh for sure - he's a great player.  I was talking a full tier below Olynyk.  A guy who maybe touches the back end of the Rivals 150 but has legit size (6'10"+) and rebounding ability.  Somebody whose upside is a Gary McGhee or Onuaku.

I'm pretty good at identifying posters under different names and I think I have a special appreciation for Realfan's rants and identifying them.

CHALLENGE!
Back in the BEB heyday you were accusing anyone who was negative of being Realfan. You even accused me, the most popular poster of all time of being Realfan.

It is funny how some posters accuse other posters of being someone else or fans of another team. It is like the Salem witch hunt or the McCarthy hearings. Heck a guy with the sign on name Fordham repeatedly accussed someone of being Seton Hall fan. I think you guys should just go back to imagining Linda to be a busty 18 year old girl and stop worrying about if he is Realfan. I blame Scotch for this phenomenon as he kept changing names after being banned.

BTW Baldi is not a SJU fan but Pat is. I am pretty sure MCNPA is coach's wife. I am also pretty sure Fun is Foad and also GFAK ;)I do not think Linda is Realfan but is actually Kate Upton.

I don't like the reference to the " white fan base".

Why not?  I go to one of our basketball games or a red/white club gathering and I see that the majority of the people there are caucasian.  I'm not necassarily implying as sinister a reason for our posters affection for Marco Sartre as racism.  I've already used the "Invictus" analogy so don't you think that Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby were very popular players in Harlem?
Was that wrong?

Perhaps a small step in the direction of ending racism would be when we can discuss it openly, honestly and rationally without cringing and shrinking from the mere insinuation or mention of it.

I think in order to diffuse this whole, people root for Bourgault because he is white thing we should take the words of Frank Sinatra/ Joe Piscapo to heart.

"You are blind as a bat, and I have sight!/Side by side, you are my amigo,

If you think our fan base is race-blind you haven't been paying attention to the program very long.
Multiple times this season I've heard at alumni and msg how it's good to see how Lavin went out and got a white guy or two.

It's not in your face - it rarely is NY, but if you really believe it doesn't exist, then you've conditioned yourself not to look for it.

With that said - our fans are also thirsty for a shooter, even a bad one (hence the love for PG by some).

I've heard that as well.  I just dont like it being mentioned that I am one when I happened to support more PT for a guy hence my reaction.

I am ashamed to admit that I do count one token white guy among my top 20 all time SJU basketball players. Becuase of the tone of this thread I will remove Mullin from my list going forward.

Honestly if this really is an issue for people I would suggest maybe following a different sport.

Christian jones starts the year starting, I really don't see what he did wrong that nobody else hasn't done to warrant such a demotion or such a long stretch of time, Felix at one point was starting and I don't see what he did to warrant the same treatment when put on a scale and comparison to the rest of his teammates. This is just getting rediculous. We've seen what everybody else can do in extended minutes lets see what these guys can do. Can't insert guys for 3 minutes and expect miracles that not basketball. Basketball is a game of rythym and confidence and you can't attain neither of the two playing 2 minutes a game it's not fair to expect a contribution when utilized in that fashion.

But, if Lavin leaves Felix and Jones out there, knowing they are not producing or ready for extended minutes, isn't that worse? Then our fans would kill Lavin even more for giving players too many minutes who don't deserve it. We don't see what goes on in practice, but I'm sure if Jones and Felix were deserving of extra minutes they would be seeing them.

Your right were not in practice.  But correct me if I'm wrong.  We went from Felix redshirting.  To him playing a bit in a few games and looking good.  Everyone calling him the next Paris Horne.  Lavin had some analogy I'm thankfully forgetting for sure.  Then he starts Felix.  Felix doesnt produce and hes done, glued to the bench.

Little odd, no?
Whether we, as fans, accept it or not...he needs to let some of the newer guys develop and that requires an investment (i.e. PT)...not saying long stretches but certainly a little more than a quick cameo...Felix can certainly spell Greene and provide high energy defense during his time on the floor...Jones, while still learning, generally has some positive moments mixed with some not so positive...with a bit more time, I'm sure the former would begin to outnumber the latter...

Greene has sufficent minutes to give as he averages 31+ and should be closer to Dom and Amir (~ 24)...Jones can probably take some of Amir's
