I see Big Chris is #4 in the nation in blocked shots.  http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/statistics/player/_/stat/blocks

I think I read elsewhere that he was ranked #2.  Some people here have said that some of his blocks haven't been accurately counted.

Overall I like the fact that Obekpa is so opportunistic when it comes to blocks.  Certainly better than him hesitating.  Having said that, I think that there were a couple of plays against SF in which he was so hyped up, so opportunistic, that he was drawn out of position by a driving guard and had the ball lofted over his head for an alley-oop dunk by the other team.  I may be wrong about that, as I haven't had the chance to go back and watch the video, but my feeling was that SF predicted what he'd do when they would drive and that was part of the game plan.  But I could have this wrong.

8. Chris Obekpa, C, St. John's Red Storm

It's mid-February and Obekpa is still holding on to the nation's highest block rate, having swatted away better than 16 percent of opponents' attempted 2s during his minutes. Better still from Steve Lavin's perspective, his freshman is blocking all those shots while averaging just three fouls per 40 minutes in conference play (though Obekpa did foul out at home in a mere 13 minutes against Connecticut last week). Indeed it's not too much to say that the Red Storm defense goes as Obekpa goes. The numbers for SJU on that side of the ball are unexceptional across the board, with two exceptions: 2-point defense and a lack of fouling. Obekpa has helped both of those numbers along.
