You're right, it doesn't make a huge difference, but why do it at all? 
Is playing GG 10mins going to cost us 12 points?   No
But  why play the game with anything but your best lineups?   

Right.  And if Gift isn't going to provide you with any more offense that CO, why not have the latter's presence in the middle changing shots, etc?  It does not make any sense to play Gift extended minutes.  Just like, against better teams, it doesn't make any sense not to have either Jordan or Branch running the point.

He is not a bad role player, every team needs guys like Gift. On the other hand start your best possible lineup and the start of each half and the last 5 minutes of the game. You need to come out strong and finish strong and Gift shouldn't be in that role.

While Lavin is trying to figure this out, he may find that the season slipped away.

Not saying I agree w it but Jordan and Obekpa can't stay out if foul trouble. If you want to stay on the court, maybe don't pick up two stupid fouls in the first 3 minutes against Columbia. Just a thought.

Part of them not starting is Coach trying to keep them out of foul trouble...

I am not a fan of gift. Also thought lavin got out coached vs Xavier . I think he started gift for 2 reasons. Keep guys out of foul trouble. And tire out that big white guy. Gift isn't that physical but is more physical then obekpa. Thought it was good idea . It worked in 1st. Didn't work in second. Not the reason we lost.
I think we lost because we keep our only true pg on the bench. Jordan is listed as a pg but he is not getting any one else shots. Think branch has to play and play a lot. He is also a good defender.
Would maybe try pointer at the 4. Atleast he is physical. Can't play him with obekpa. I like Greene , but he played way to much
