Last Year's Team vs This Year's Team
« on: January 10, 2014, 10:07:56 AM »
who's better?

Even with a depleted bench, i think consistency in the lineups and rotations, last year's team was better.  they showed more fire and desire to win. and it was a very reasonable expectation that we were going to make the tourney (until Harrison suspension).

thoughts?

Are we supposed to applaud him now for not starting the walkon?

No, but deserves kudos for the anti "premonition" intervention he took advantage of.

Sam Sealy and Lipscomb are better than Ndiaye and Walston so I give a slight edge to last year's team. If Lipscomb hadn't redshirtted this year's squad would be better, unless Christian Jones had redshirtted last year instead of this year in which case last year's team would have a slight edge over this year's unless Balamou redshirtted last year in which case this year.

Here is how it would play out.
Last year's starting 5:
C Obepka
F Sampson
F Pointer
G Greene
G Branch
Harrison supended

This year's starting 5:
C Sanchez
F Sampson
F Rudy
G Harrison
G Greene

Before the game Lavin explained why a walkon was starting for this year's squad as the following: "He is like eating at a diner, sometimes you want pancakes or eggs for dinner."

2013-2014 Harrison claims he is very disappointed he won't be able to play against 2012-2013 Harrison.

Game is very close and boring until 2012-2013 Dom Pointer takes a cheap shot at 2013-2014 Dom Pointer and both are ejected for fighting.

Hi light of the 1st half is 2012-13 Obepka blocking 7 consecutive shots by 13-14 Obepka. After the amazing sequence both versions of Obepka grin maniacally.

13-14 SJU takes 24-21 lead at the half on Harrison's three. Harrison leads all scorers with 14.

Early in the 2nd half play is halted so the ref could ask both sets of Lavin to stop clapping in ex agerated fashion as no one can hear the whistles. .

After 12-13 ties the game at 40 on a 6-0 run 12-13 Lavin inexplicably calls a TO. This is followed by 13-14 Lavin calling his own TO immediately after.

Johnny Jungle is ecstatic as 12-13 Bourgault, 13-14 Bourgault and Hooper are all on the court at the same time. This lasts 37 seconds and one missed jumper and all the white guys are then benched.

Both Phil Greene's are injured when they bang heads chasing each other around in a circle.

Both Jakar Sampson's finally find someone they are willing to pass to, themselves. Unfortunately they are not on the same team so they keep committing turnovers. Both Lavin's are forced to bench them.

12-13 Greene hits the go ahead shot at the buzzer to give 12-13 the 64-63 win.
12-13 Greene scores 19 points on 7-12 shooting
13-14 Greene scores 7 points on 2-12 shooting
Carmine is torn.
