It hasn’t been a great season for the Erie Bayhawks. The Knicks’ D-League affiliate is 7-17, and has lost four of its past five entering Sunday’s game against the Iowa Energy.

But a few BayHawks have stood out despite the many losses. One is them is ex-St. John's star Justin Brownlee.

Brownlee was in the Knicks’ training camp but was cut due to an injury. He ended up on the Bayhawks, and has made a big impact thus far.

Brownlee is averaging 13.5 points per game on 51.6 percent shooting. And he’s doing more than just scoring. The swingman's also pulling down 6.3 rebounds, handing out 2.6 assists and getting 1.5 steals.

All of that, and he’s only turning it over 1.1 times in 29 minutes per game.

At 6-foot-7 and 219 pounds, Brownlee has strong court vision for his size, and has shown he can score in bunches when necessary. He put up 35 points in the D-League Showcase in Reno, Nevada recently, drawing attention from several scouts and team executives in attendance.

Also playing well in Erie are veteran Ricky Davis (13.1 ppg), training camp invitee C.J. Leslie (12.6 ppg), Scott Suggs (team-high 17.5 ppg) and Mustafa Shakur (14.6 ppg, 5.4 apg).

Chris Smith, J.R.’s younger brother, is scoring 8.4 points and handing out 2.4 assists in 22 minutes per game.

Good to see. He's a good guy and was a tremendous player for us.

Nice to hear. He's the type of player we could really use this season. Not overly athletic, but plays under control and very smart basketball.

Funny Chris Smith is making the most money on that team.
