Guys like coach crump from wadleigh highschool who just passed away was the epitome of a coach who was there to help mentor these kind of kids. Damn money damn wins damn recognition. He understood it was more than just ball. These kids need a escape from theirs lives even if its for a few hours. And sports is the best getaway. No guns no crimes. Just competition.

There is more to this story.  Was at the Nova game sitting right behind a large group of Jordan's friends and family a few sections over from the SJU students.  Early in the second half the entire group left suddenly. Out in the hallway it was a chaotic scene as it appears a female member of the group had collapsed and was surrounded by screaming and crying others most wearing the red 23 t-shirts they wore identifying themselves with Rysheed.  No one returned after the paramedics arrived.  On television you will also notice the Jordan family members sitting behind the bench leaving and not returning around the same time.
Did anyone else who went to the game notice all of this? No matter what it's an awful lot for this kid to shoulder.

You're right. I did see that before I heard the news. That it was odd but figured they had moved to sit with others friends and family.  Tragic all around. Rip.

Condalances to Jordan and his family during this difficult time.
Major credit to him for shouldering these burdens his freshmen year and to Lavin for protecting him from the media.

Hope Rysheed keeps his head.  Gets himself out of the turmoil that seems to surround him, and into a good place.  Just watched SJU's video piece on Rysheed.  All mentioned his personal strife and it seems to be hitting home constantly for him, which is terrible to hear.

It's not about basketball, but in a way it is.  The court is still a place where he can be a kid, a student athlete, a pro and make his own way.   Coach Rico said in the video piece "he needs to fall in love with the process of getting better".  I think this is true with a lot of brash young kids think their game can just carry them.  Seems like he's fighting through and listening because his game is getting a ton better.

I just hope he realizes that he can, and will make it through the tough times.  Wish this kid the best and SJu supporters I know are all supportive.

Exactly why i'll never blame a kid from NYC or similar background leaving a tough area and going away, sometimes its just a better situation. Like Dom, D'lo, Phil and CJ and of course Rysheed
