http://www.collegehoopsjournal.com/2008/05/29/georgetown-slipping-back-into-its-early-00s-self/This was a program that was The Program of the ’80s. Then the ’90s came, Iverson kept them afloat, but after he jumped ship following his sophomore year, the Hoyas submerged into the basement of the Big East in John Thompson’s final years and for most of the Craig Esherick era.
The only worthy highlight of Hoyas basketball between 1998 and 2004 was the beautiful rant courtesy of Hitler Esherick about Mike Sweetney getting abused in the post. (Can’t find the video on YouTube, unfortunately.)
Now, as the Washington Times details, the Hoyas may be falling back to obscurity following the news that highly touted recruit Chris Braswell is having some grade issues and won’t be playing in Hoya Town next year.
This comes on the heels of losing vital role players Vernon Macklin and Jeremiah Rivers.
That comes on the heels of blowing a game they absolutely no business losing against Davidson in the second round of The Tournament.
Always thought Thompson was a little overrated, but The Big Lead brought this up yesterday, and it should be addressed: Is Georgetown in the midst of disintegrating? The Big East is never a joke and keeping your ahead above water (qualify that as a Top Six team in the league) is very hard to do year in, year out. The Hoyas are down to nine guys who’ve signed the line and only have one man in the front court with legitimate game experience (DaJuan Summers).
Put this news on the back burner for November, when G’Town likely won’t be picked to finish higher than fifth in the Big East.
