Balamou and Jones
« on: October 14, 2014, 09:49:07 AM »
I figured since the Thomas thread was hi-jacked I'd give these two their own thread.

I put them together, because I think we can learn a lot about Lavin's ability to find and develop talent by focusing on what guys like this turn into. Success IMO, is an incredibly tall order, but it would begin to justify a system that we haven't seen work yet. I think this is how you judge your coach fairly. Is he helping his recruits to get better?

You bring guys in. They barely play, but are they learning? Are they getting better in practice? That's what we need to see from at least one of these guys. One of these players IMO needs to become an important part of next year's team. We shouldn't be in a position where we have to start over from scratch next year. Balamou and Jones are massively important for continuity.

Unless of course, if Jay Henderson turns out to be Bootsy Thornton, and Amir Albegovic plays like a kid that should be mentioned on Draft Express, it won't matter much, but the sleeper recruit has to awaken at some point.

Who's it gonna be?

C Jones has the best shot.  Glut of guards buries the Haitian Sensation

He isn't Haitian, but I agree that Felix probably gets buried behind the guards and Dom.  I have no faith that Lavin comes out running...I mean truly running with this team, but Felix could shine in that kind of pace and there would be minutes for him.

It's a shame we don't run all game because this team is built for that and they are freaking deep.

I've learned to expect the unexpected. Phil Greene was supposed to be a reserve 2 guard. He ran the point as a freshman.
If Balamou plays well, and Pointer doesn't, I think Lavin will give him a chance. Plus, you never know who will feel like they're not playing enough and transfer out? Would it shock anyone?

Remember the "Red" in Red Storm stands for drama.

I'm pulling for both of these guys. It's really exhausting having to start over so often.
