Gut Check Week
« on: January 19, 2015, 09:53:51 PM »
This is a critical juncture in the season, Harrison being 100% healthy and Sheed turning the corner is vital.

If they beat Marquette on Wednesday, and play lights out again this wknd…with their assumed RPI, I think they'll vault back into the top25.

This has the potential to be a momentum shifting week for better or worse.

Thoughts?

Realtime RPI is now at 40.  Marquette is at 114. After Duke, we get Creighton  with an RPI at 150. Any loses from now on, besides Duke, will be crippling

Agreed Baldi, the DePaul loss was stifling for the simple fact that they've decreased their margin for error significantly. I think that the staff and roster have realized this.

They played inspired ball throughout the first half yesterday. They have to remain consistent and reel off 3 straight wins to get back on an upward track. It's go time.

Does our team have a statistician or somebody who looks at the advanced metrics?    Honest question.

Pitino  had a good quote yesterday about how defenses are so much better prepared because of technology and analysis, but good teams use them to find effective offensive strategies as well.  (He was implying that his team needs to get better offensively)

...

Last game I counted 16 "non-players" (meaning staff members, managers, etc) on or behind our bench.  That is an insane number. So I would hope someone does .

Beat Marquette and Creighton, take Duke down to last 5 minutes. That's all that can be expected. If Duke is off we will stay with them for most of the game. If they are on and get momentum early we could lose by 30.

If they beat Marquette and Duke,  they dramatically improve their profile from first four out/in to a 3/4 seed. That's assuming a ton, but it's a tremendous opportunity. Playing in front of a Sunday Fox National audience, MSG sold out, Coack K 1000 win press all week, the whole bit.

Harrison is obviously the key. W out him we can't beat Depaul.  Is he okay?

If the team doesnt get up for the Duke game like someone metioned with all the media coverage and being on FOX then something is really wrong here. This is a huge opportunity, no one expects a win here but if they did somehow pull off this big upset it would be the most press we have gotten for a win in a long time. That fact alone should have these kids excited to play. Beat Marquette soundly and gain some confidence first, if we lose tomorrow I think Duke will destroy us.

Marquette has played tough, but lost some close ones. I expect a tight win. Beating anyone soundly may not be in cards v any of remaining opponents. Let's just grab a BE win. Clock is ticking.

The team is 1-4 in conference play and you are talking about a 3/4 seed.  Just wow...

MSG will definitely be sold out.  My concern is about 75% of the crowd will be pro Duke.

Fans selling their tickets to Dukies won't help the case. I will be front and center. Fck Duke and Coach K

Top 25? This team better focus on Marquette and nothing else. The DePaul loss was crippling, I totally agree with that.

Lavin needs to start playing a few more bodies. Alibegovic actually looked decent the other day. The only big on this team with any kind of offensive ability.
