When I worked with St Johns athletics, Keady would travel and go to events with the team, talk to the players, eat with them etc.
And as someone else mentioned he was always on the bench during games.
So what exactly is the rule. And there was the ever few times you would see Lavin leaning over to talk to Keady on the bench area during a game stoppage.

I think he can coach the coaches and not the players. Not sure of that is in games only though.

And the stupidity of the rule is on a level of its own.  What's to stop Keady or Richmond from just yelling something out in general.  Doesn't have to be standing face to face with the player.  Like the NCAA has our huddle bugged.  Again stupid rule, stupid restrictions.  Can't be enforced.
