They let the physical play go on for too many years. Now it's going to be really hard to get rid of. K really pushed the envelope on it in the 80's and early 90's. That's how he made his bones. I can still remember Amaker with his hand on Mark's wrist on the final shot of the first ever NIT Preaseason tourney in November of 85'. And how Hurley fouled the heck out of Boo Harvey all game long in the 90' NCAA tourney.. They even said he was complaining to the refs about it. No calls. (Only Singleton with the tech; AT THE END OF THE GAME, TO GIVE THE GAME TO DUKE).
Now if you want to get rid of the physical defense, you have to sit through whistle after whistle, and this could go on for a few more years at least. Eventually it will stop. But I'd rather see players display more of their offensive talents then watch "physical defense". But move the three point line back towards the NBA distance. You'd see more offensive creativity then just watching all players toeing up at the exact same distance. I think that is what is monotonous about the game right now. But at the end of the year they stop calling so many fouls anyway. They let more stuff go. Bo Ryan was furious about it after the national championship game last April.
