Wouldn't it be great if the coaches spoke honestly and said something along the lines of: "I don't give a rat's a$$ about the education of my players.  I want to win basketball games."

I am more than willing to give Lavin credit for graduating his seniors.  Find it strange that his concern for academics did not extend to Rysheed Jordan, who couldn't return to play for Mullin even when he decided he'd like to.  Also, under Lavin's guidance, did not file for the NBA draft before the deadline, even after he'd skipped out on his 2nd semester classes and all his finals, virtually ensuring that when he decided that he'd leave school to explore his "professional options" there would be no "professional options" open to him.

Anyone else raise an eyebrow w this excerpt? This isn't exactly common knowledge to an LA beat writer:

Within hours after he was let go at St. John’s – mostly because the new president was bent on having former alum Chris Mullin take over the program –

Obviously Lavin told the guy I wasn't fired because I sucked, I was fired because the new guy wanted Mullin.

This is exactly the propaganda that he and his people have been pumping out since he was fired. That he was "backdoored" by Mullin.
honestly a donor who doesn't post on any boards told me thats true

And the same person told me Gemp is star struck with Mullin but I'm cool with that because hopefully the program gets whatever it needs to succeed

To a certain degree he was in the shadows but Lavin didn't help himself out. It's all water under the bridge.

Lavin brought some fun exciting times here and helped change the way the school operated. He didn't work up to his potential and the proof was in the pudding. Time to move on.

Also I think Lavin is much better on TV than the sidelines and there is nothing wrong with that.

It's not the first time that St.John's has treated a head coach like that.

Not denying that Mullin showed interest before the season was over, I've heard there were discussions a couple months prior as well, but it is certainly not the case that Lavin would be here even if Mullin didn't take the job or was a candidate.

It's also not the first time SJU has had a HC that deserved to be treated like that.

How was Norm lacking in moral fiber?
