Thank you Coach Mullin
« on: April 09, 2019, 12:17:57 PM »
Thanks to Coach Mullin for taking over a program that was a dumpster fire in the making. He inherited very little, did his best and got the team back to the NCAA Tournament.

St. John's has one of the worst fan bases in the country. As a whole, WE are complainers living in the past and don't have a real grip on the current landscape of the sport.

Chris Mullin didn't need St. John's, St. John's needed him and he came. Was it the success that everyone wanted - no but it was not a disaster either. The team won more games every year he was the head coach and despite unrealistic fan expectations, the program is in a better place today than it was 4 years ago.

Thank you Coach - good luck to you and all the best to your family in all your future endeavors..

I have no ill-will towards Mullin, but wow those are two incredibly dumb sentences

No offense to Mullin but perhaps the only "better" place this program is in is in terms of money from alot of those filled Garden games last year. From a team standpoint- we have 3 decent players Heron, Simon, LJ but that is not nearly enough to get people excited. We have little to no depth and we just had a rare 4 star we recruited decommit.

Lets hope the next coach brings energy and the resources we need to be a consistent contender. And yes also Xs and Os with a good staff. Our last game we were embarrassed on national TV and just lost our best player who in all likelihood is at best a mid-range second round pick if he is even drafted. We have a lot of work to do to catch up to rest of conference.

I will thank Chris though for taking the job when he did not need to. Unselfish move and he is class act. In fairness I would have given him 1 more year and made sure he was able to get the top assistants he wanted.

I am glad Mullin was the coach here.  But it was obvious it was time for him to go.  You can be tying your shoes during timeouts and expect to keep your job.

Bobby Hurley would be a godsend for this program.

Thank you for leaving. Came in promising to work hard on the recruiting trail and treated the job as a part time gig spending most of his time in Cali. Slurp all you want sycophants.

It’s not like he took over after norm. We had been to 2 ncaa and 2 NIT in the 5 years prior to him taking the job. He performed worse than Lavin - the coach he replaced. This year was decent and I would not have fired him, but it’s not accurate to say St. John’s was a dumpster fire when he took over. The empty cupboard stuff is also overstated. This is college, you can reload a team in 1-2 years. Lavin had to do the same thing. And presumably with some defections and Shamorie leaving the next coach will also have to do the same thing.  It would be nice to see how he performed the next year or so, but let’s hope Cragg has a plan to improve.

Such a shame that storybook endings only happen in storybooks.

We all wish you nothing but the best in the future. We will always love you and so appreciate you coming home to make things better at your beloved alma mater!

P.S
The way you treat Lou is much admired.
