i was convinced we'd be a bunch of losers this time last year when norm was extended.  that's why i boycotted all the games.

so how do you exceed no expectations?.

I'd say met expectations or slightly exceeded it...only cause Mason got hurt.  Hard to say anything positive after yesterday.

After every season under Roberts we've all said, we would have won more if it weren't for _________ who got hurt.

I think it shows just how careless the administration is because they don't realize that after 5 consecutive seasons of beig the walking wounded, they aren't smart enough to realize that there should be blame applied here.

Am I saying that it's Norm's fault that Mason Jr got hurt?
Yes, I am.

How on Earth is it Norm's fault the Mason got hurt?...u have to be crazy to even consider that

Not crazy. I'm what's called dead-on-balls accurate.
Let me explain.

If Mason getting hurt was an isolated incident, Norm would not be responsible for that. But every season since year one, we lose a player that breaks us. He's built a roster loaded with guys that can't shoot, he set them up for disaster when they lost the one guy who could.

So Mason's injury did them in, because they had no answer for a zone defense without a decent three point shooter on the roster.

How many Big East programs go into a season with one guy that can shoot?
Just ours. 5 years in, and we have one shooter.

So now, because of his inability to recruit, evaluate and develop talent, Roberts is to blame when a guy goes down. Players on every team get hurt. Ask Marquette what it felt like to lose a senior like Dominic James?

We lost a marginal talent in Anthony Mason Jr, and all we hear about from Roberts is how that loss is the reason why this team isn't sitting pretty right now.

And BTW-Malik Boothe's injury, and the results of that injury are also Norm Roberts' fault. Now, do you understand why?

Poison... IMO... I think you are miscommunicating what you are trying to say.

There is no way it's Norm's fault that Mason got hurt. However, I think you wanted to say it's his fault for not having someone on the team who had the ability to step in a fill the shooting void that we missed due to his injury (IMO... Horne did do that). And the ball handling void of Boothe's injury.

I thought we would win 6 conference games and finish the season at 16-14. We won 6 conference games and 16 total games overall. That's what I expected. It's just the embrassing losses like Marq that piss me off. We are adding Mase and Omari next year lets see how many more victories that equates too.

I expected the record.

What I didnt expect was the blowouts.

Thought that was sometin in the past. But it occur far too often this year.

Its one thing to lose. Its another to lose yo dignity.

Average case scenario: 17-16 overall; 6-12 in Big East.

I guess you can say they met my expectations from a win/loss standpoint. However, just because they met my expectations, doesn't mean that I am happy.

I didn't expect us to get blown out as bad as we did in some of the games we played. From that standpoint, I am very unhappy.

I do feel that we have a very good group of core players for next year. Combine this along with Lance, Omari and Hardy, I am expecting we will win more games next year to be at least the middle of the pack in the BE and hopefully a NCAA birth. The following year (2011-12), we better be in the top 1-40 in RPI.  (Choz...  I want the whole cake like you. I am just slightly more patient than you are).

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you.  When you speak of a "very good group of core players for next year", are you speaking of the same team that scored 10 points in a half?  Or the team that lost 16 or 17 games by double digits?  Or the team that's loss margin was nearly 19 points per game against the top half of the conference?  Because I don't care how you spin it, those stats are absolutely awful.

Plus, you're speaking of Stephenson as though he's already here.  I don't care what people say, I am not going to believe anything until he signs on the dotted line.  Fans have gone through this with countless recruits (Fisher and Landesberg to name a few) since Norm has been here.  When Lance stands in front of a podium and announces he's coming to St. John's, then I'll pencil him in.

A lot of that game fell under coaching, game planning, and lack of adjusting. We ran play after play and Marquette knew what was coming before it came. We showed 0 adjustment. I don't think this is a fault on their talent or potential because we've seen during the course of the season this team does possess some talent.

I also agree with not getting your hopes up about Lance yet you should still have hope for it to happen. Not saying you don't but I hope that you do because we need him.

While the team has some talented players, I don't consider them nearly talented enough to make the NCAA Tournament next season.  I mean, let's be realistic here ... has this team shown you the ability to go from 16 wins to 21 or 22 wins next year?  It (a) can't shoot (b) does not have a legit point guard (c) does not have an overpowering front court presence.  So basically we're gonna have to rely on our 7 or 8 wing players to somehow go from 13th to 5th or 6th in the most powerful conference in America?  I'm sorry, but I don't see it.

As for Stephenson, I'd love to see him come to St. John's (even though I doubt Norm would help him in any way).  From all accounts, he's a major difference maker on the court.  That being said, I'm not gonna get my hopes up for him since we fans have gone through this every single year.  Some hotshot player is between us and another school and he chooses another school because it "felt like the better fit."  I hope Lance proves to be the exception, but I guess only time will tell.
