Thanks bball.

It would be great if someone could suggest to norm that every player plays organized ball over the summer.

It's great that Coker is practicing his jump hooks, but he needs to get comfortable making them in game situation. He couldn't score on anyone last year.

Are their any NCAA rules pertaining to these kids playing organized team ball over the summer?  Not saying that this would ever happen, but what is the ruling on a college team playing together in a summer league?

They can do whatever they choose to do on their own. If they want to practice, they can. If they want to shoot around, they can. Coaches aren't in the presence or instructing anything.

Getting back the topic for a moment, Hardy has got to be the real deal.
Or we don't compete. Not fair to expect Lawrence to come in and carry us.

This team needs a great scorer more than anything.
10 points off Marquette in one half of basketball told us that.

Our defense is okay. There were games against Louisville and Cincy at home that
we could have won if we only had a player who could put it in the hole.

There certainly is a rule about where kids can play during the summer. The leagues they play in are SUPPOSED to be NCAA sanctioned. Whether or not the rule is actually enforced is a different story. A kid can actually get in trouble if they play in a league that is not sanctioned and they get reported.

The options of where kids could play used to be very limited during the summer but its has definitely expanded over the past 5 - 10 years.

Has Hardy been on campus, playing with his teammates?

I think he might be. The reason I say this is because I think while we were trying to recruit Lance and had only 1 (or 2) schollies left... there were other recruits who were more "well known" in their recruiting and appeal that we were going after. However, it seemed to me that we were holding back on offering them a scholly and/or recruiting them as hard as we should have. But out of nowhere... we offered Hardy a scholarship and he signed a few days later.

This to me sounds like N.R actually did his homework on this kid and was trying to keep him under the radar. Once Norm found out Hardy was willing to sign... he let the cat out the bag.

This leads me to believe that Norm (I know some of you will bash me for this)... has alot of faith in the Hardy's talent. He could be this year's "diamond in the rough". Which IMO... I think Norm has done a decent job so far (i.e Sean Evans).

This is our dream. Norm has done a good job of locating sleepers, but they haven't stuck around long enough to develop here. Derwin Kitchen and Doug Wiggins were sleepers. Had they been as student and a person too we'd have been a much better team.

With Roberts, the question is always who actually makes it onto the court, and who stays healthy?

Understandable... but you can't blame Norm if someone gets injured or if someone decides they are too lazy to work out (Calhoun) or if they are a good liar (Wiggins).

Well the kids have to be granted permission by their coach to play in the league. They can't say well I want to play summber ball here and do it on their own. I tried scooping Stephen Curry for a game last summer on my summer league team in Belmar as he was visiting his teammate Steve Rossiter from Staten Island who plays in the league however he didn't have permission from McKillop to play so he was just a spectator. Same thing even goes for guys in the NBA they need to get permissions and waivers to play in leagues which I know first hand because I had to get the fax for Brevin Knight's agent.

I'll look into it in more detail on the exact NCAA policy.

Hardy wasn't an overnight thing. He was on the radar since HS but grades forced him to go JUCO route. Braica and Oz were the two front men on the Hardy trail.

The one thing that sucks is that he falls into the same recruiting class as the majority of the team but then again at this point beggers can't be choosers. I'd like to put a team together to make a run short term and worry about long term when it gets here(from a fan perspective). There are plenty of other ways I would have gone looking back but right now we got to throw it all on the line....load the gun up and lets go out blazing.

and plus by doing better now, that could attract more potential recruits 4 the future....

And just curious, how about a sleeper that Norm recruited and who stayed here, but actually seemed to sleep through part of last season (injury non-withstanding)?
Does that count?

Spoke to a coach on the X-Men staff  & asked his opinion about Hardy's game, since I have not seen him play since his PSAL days.

He said he is a combo guard leaning more towards a SG.

Can he play PG we need help there? He looked at me & said strongly he is will be one of our better & efficient scorers  you don't want him facilitating. He added he can bring up the rock, but rarely does it during the summer B-Ball games.

I asked can he start from day one on a Big East Roster & contribute right away ? He said easily. The kid just knows how to score efficiently. He said he will push Horne for the starting SG spot if he is able to step up his D, but offensively Hardy is better.

My last question was is he more of Bootsy Thornton or Marcus Hatten?
He said more of a shorter Bootsy, has great range & a crafty mid range game. Better shooter than Hatten but not as athletic or the defender that Hatten was at SJU.

Attack basketball, pressure defense, 40 minutes of hell ... Early on it might be 30 minutes of hell, then 10 minutes of what the hell are you doing?"
