St. John's star (Kennedy) emerges from rough 'hood [NY Post]

A lot of tattoos have become cliché -- misspelled Chinese letters or names of lovers long gone -- but the one that runs across D.J. Kennedy's chest boldly states his personal creed:

Born to Die, Built to Live.

"The place I come from, people die, everyday," Kennedy told The Post in an exclusive interview. "But I'm built to live."

Kennedy, 21, the Red Storm's multi-tasking junior forward, is from The Hill section in Pittsburgh, which according to the police figures, contains one apartment complex alone that averaged five murders for every 100 households last year.

This is where Kennedy's older brother, Derrick Holliday, 24, was almost shot dead -- twice. And where his cousin, Devon Holliday, died of a heart attack in October after a police chase.

Good for him. For some, getting out is exactly what's right.
Too bad more people don't know that Jamaica is a nicer neighborhood than many in college basketball.

DJ will make a nice living playing ball. Hopefully in the league.

i've posted before that dj will make the nba because he's hungry.  now i know why.
