The clock rolled toward a minute left at Madison Square Garden. Hofstra was 8 points down against St. John’s on Sunday, and the Pride’s star, Charles Jenkins, was looking up from under the basket. D. J. Kennedy blocked his shot, then Justin Brownlee stuffed his follow.

A symbolic moment. The Red Storm finally swatted away Hofstra, scoring 18 of the final 19 points to beat the Pride, 72-60, in the semifinals of the Holiday Festival and advance to the championship game Monday night against Cornell, a 91-88 overtime winner over Davidson on a 3-point buzzer-beater by Ryan Wittman.
