Lance Stephenson will play his first college game at the Garden tomorrow, but not for the team most St. John's fans hoped.
Instead of starring for the Red Storm, the former Lincoln standout will continue his stellar freshman season with Cincinnati, a school he chose this past summer, in part, because he felt that "Mick [Cronin] would make me a better player, Mick was a better coach" than St. John's coach Norm Roberts.
Stephenson is just one of several top local players who have spurned Roberts and St. John's in recent years, one of the key reasons why the program has struggled.
