So you're saying they should let Norm pay players and/or their handlers?

Not Norm.

You think St Johns is on an even playing field with the rest of the BIg East in that sense? Its tough telling a kid he'll get a free education when another school's underling is giving them some kind of $weethear deal with keys along with that free ride

i think 2 things 1 u have to do what the big boys are doing. and we all know what that is. and 2 st. johns doesnt have any boosters. i mean real boosters like kentucky and usc and ucla has.i dont know if it is because we are not a football school or if they dont like ball but they arent helping out

gonzaga, nova, gtown, northern iowa, all dont have football programs or large boosters, and are doing well.

at the end of the day, it really doesnt matter why were not doing well, boosters or not...we just cannot win with norm. god its that simple.

norm isnt bad he is missing something to get over that hump. i had time to calm down and look at the game we was up by 16 at one point. u cant do that if u sucked as a coach.
no kob, he sucks. we were up 16 with our talent alone. but with our particular talent we cannot hold the lead when the other team makes adjustments, thats where norms coaching comes in and to repeat failure after failure on losing leads, it comes down to coaching.

Not that I know for sure, but you sure about that?  Just asking.  Northern Iowa is on a different level.  They don't have players you've heard about recruiting battles for.  And I say this agreeing that the player development and player deployment on this team's poor.

Norm is a Nice guy and he has stayed loyal to 5 players

Boothe, DJ, Paris, Evans and Mason

I know these 5 are hard working good kids, but his blind loyalty to them has hurt the team

look at it like this. they wanted him to do something and he did it. he didnt give them no scandals for 6 years. thats what they wanted
professional moralist harrington buried the only scandal the school has had in that six year stretch...remember father "charlie" getting caught wakking it on a computer to a young boy.  this is the same father charlie who went to mary immaculate with father harrington...the same father charlie who worked with young boys at covenant house.

so father charlie gets a slap on the wrist and is sent upstate to be "supervised" by a fellow priest.  no one breathes a word.  i would like to have seen FH complain about the "culture" of the priesthood the way he preached about the "culture" of the basketball team.

the bottom line here is FH could care less about basketball.  he's letting it die a slow death.  that's the only success he's had since coming to st john's...killing off sports programs.

just a guess. the top 10 football schools generate enough revenue to support more than the entire athletic department as well as the entire school's sports. ok, so usc, ucla, kentucky are not among the top 10 revenue generators, but a football program will provide the majority of the funds needed.

maybe in that particular case, but im merely stating that with a fooTBALL program, results in more revenue and larger budget. which may result in paying for the best coach/recruiter so we wouldnt have to rely on boosters.

Please someone correct me if i'm wrong.  I believe thare was a guy named Reilly who had some serious loot. Wanted to give to the school, but also wanted to be a part of the coaching search. was told to go "pack sand". He took his money to 'Nova.

That's what I've heard as well.  I believe that's what KOB was alluding to too.

St. John's, especially the basketball program, has plenty of boosters, don't let anyone ever tell you differently.

i don't know about him taking his money to nova..but he did offer 24million dollars to the program.  the rub was he wanted doherty hired.  without going into all that happened or didn't happen...doh wasn't hired and reilly pulled the money and is no longer a trustee at the school.

I think it was $9 million (the entire cost of the then-to-be-named Riley Center was $24 million or so).

I'm not sure we ever got an exact amount, but most accounts of the story claim he donated "the bulk" of the 23 million.

Norm needs a middle man to help land some recruit$. Someone to get him over that hump. Maybe an influential alumnus, maybe Jay Wright or Calipari can recommend someone? Does World Wide Wes have a little brother or cousin available?

Too late, Baldi.  LOL  He should've done that 3 years ago.

this is what happens when you look for a "unifying" candidate rather than the best candidate.

i hope they learned their lesson and will keep rutledge, looie, etal out of the process.
