St. John's coach Norm Roberts said the Red Storm had "nothing to lose" when going against top-ranked Syracuse Tuesday night. Of course there was still the matter of the game, and the Johnnies definitely lost that.
The Orange reached No. 1 for the first time in 20 years on Monday, and the Red Storm did little to cast doubt on that ranking in an 85-66 pasting before 26,081 at the Carrier Dome. The Orange (28-2, 15-2) scored the most points St.John's has allowed this season and clinched the Big East regular-season title.
