Iowa?????  What the..................Iowa!  Why would he do that? :o

Because St.john's is incompetent  or he knows the job is going to Lavin.  Probably both.

False. Monasch met with McCaffrey last night in midtown and St. John's has yet to meet or talk with Steve Lavin. McCaffrey had been in discussions with a few schools.

A little disappointed in that, I would have liked to see McCaffery on St. John's sidelines.

Not saying that he wouldn't have been a good fit, but McCaffery had a lot going for him at Siena. He's recruiting against Marist and Fairfield and Iona - no Xanadu's there. Siena is a nice campus, in a nice part of the country, they play in a nice gym in front of a sold out crowd of 7 or 8 thousand, they get the home court in the conference tournament every year, the administration is supportive and the media kisses his ass. As far as MAAC schools go, it's a pretty good deal - in that regard it's nearly everything the SJU job is not. Deane, Orr and Hewitt have all gone to underachieve. Saint John's is where coaches go to die. That's not a good combination.

IIRC you hissed at Lavin but if they can get him SJ is immediately relevant. There is publicity and there are expectations and it's a destination for recruits. He can't possibly be a worse coach than Norm, who won 16 or 17 games a year. I'd take him in a heartbeat. And if it blows up in 3 or 4 years, well, better king for a day than schmuck for a lifetime.

One poster had a great idea, not even logging in until someone signs on the dotted line. Everyone is just talking out of their arses right now.

Whether its Lavin, Baron, McCaffrey, Skinner or anyone else, wake me up when it happens.

THe MAAC tourny will ber moving to SPringfield,Mass. next year. Also Fran loses one of the best recruiting classes in MAAC history. Time for him to pack it up and move to the farm

I'm not entirely against Lavin; but the fact that UCLA fans still regard him as the worst coach they've had (which I think is probably hyperbole) gives me pause, personally. But their low points would be St. John's high points, in truth.

Maybe Fran would have stunk, I don't know.

so, if the story about Fran and Iowa is true, Why do you think Fran decided to go to Iowa?

Food for thought Peter..........you will find no Iowa Hawkeye fans that will have any love for Steve ALLFAUD(as he is known there). He has done ok at New Mexico somehow. I was in California during Lavin at UCLA. You gotta understand guys, people compare everybody to JOHN WOODEN. It's a really impossible task. People are calling for Howland's job as we speak.
